Daryan: Any Attack against Christians is Tantamount to Attack against us
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةGrand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan condemned on Friday the rise of Islamic extremism in the region, highlighting the importance of Muslim-Christian ties.
He said: “Any attack against Christians is tantamount to an attack against us.”
He made his remarks during a conference titled “Family and the Current Challenges in the Middle East,” which was held at the International Center for Dialogue of Civilizations in Rabweh.
“Terrorism is a phenomenon that not only targets Muslim-Christian ties, but strikes at the core of Islam,” added the mufti.
“We are confronted with a destructive phenomenon that targets Muslims and Christians alike through attacking man's holy rights and the people's humanitarian dignity,” said Daryan.
He spoke against the immigration of Christians from the region, rejecting it “regardless of the circumstances.”
Christians and other minorities in the region are being persecuted by Islamic State group jihadists in Iraq while similar persecution is being witnessed at the hands of other extremist groups in Syria.
“Christians are the salt of this land. What will we be left with without them?” wondered Daryan.
“We want to see Christians remain attached to these nations where they can enjoy their right to justice, security, and peace,” he stressed.
Extremism targets Muslims and Christians and “we have a joint responsibility to confront it,” he declared.
“We share a common history with Christians and this history will continue in the future. We will confront the current strife and rebuild our societies together,” he stated.

Unfortunately, Christians are used by both sides and are stuck in the middle. They can't speak the truth without repercussions, some live in denial with what's going on around them in Lebanon. I'd like believe this statement, BUT only the day when a Christian can speak freely without fearing for his/her life.
It was a good act of unity between Christians and Muslims. Yes indeed, as of now, only our unity will save us, thus we all need to follow up on the grand Mufti's wisdom.
It is a good act of unity. I am just sick of these takfiri using unarmed Christians across the Levant like a turkey shoot, and no Sunni leadership doing anything about it, or holding anyone accountable. Christians need their own strong armed militia like everyone else. For we cannot count on anyone but ourselves to protect us.
I usually don't respond Marcus to immature name calling. If you disagree state your point. Look at Ras Baalbek for example. Who is protecting them from Daesh? The army? HA? No they are? The citizens patrol it? They army cannot handle Arsal effectively. You think they can protect all of the churches? Its the people. The people have to protect themselves. This is the harsh reality. Why do you think HA is so strong? Because they waited for the nice people from the north who took such good care of them the last 100 years to help them? We can pray for HA to disarm for the next 100 years its not going to happen. Christians were stupid to divide themselves and give up their arms. We need to squash this stupid Aoun/Geagea thing and move forward armed to the teeth. We are surrounded by hostiles. Wake up!
