Bayern Munich are eager to offer coach Jupp Heynckes a contract extension following his side's impressive run of form with this week's Champions League win against Manchester City their tenth consecutive victory.

Bayern beat City 2-0 on Tuesday in Munich to take control of Group A with striker Mario Gomez scoring twice to claim 11 goals in seven games.

It was Munich's tenth win without conceding a goal as goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has now played 928 minutes without being beaten and Bayern are two points clear at the top of the German league.

Heynckes has a contract with Bayern until 2013 and is in his third stint as Munich boss after coaching the side from 1987-1991 and then stepping in briefly in 2009 after Jurgen Klinsmann was sacked.

"Heynckes is a stroke of luck and the perfect coach for Bayern," Munich's director of sport Christian Nerlinger told magazine Kicker.

"Of course, it is conceivable that Heynckes stays longer, why not?

"We are very pleased with his work."

Nerlinger took a swipe at ex-Bayern coach Louis van Gaal, who was sacked in April with his team struggling to hold third in the Bundesliga which meant qualification for the lucrative Champions League.

Several players have admitted they struggled to work under the Dutchman, who had a reputation for being uncompromising.

"Jupp Heynckes has done some good work and showed he has things under control with a human touch," said Nerlinger.

"We have reinforced the squad, the players had plenty of holiday and rest this summer and the pre-season work was optimal."

Like Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern's chief executive officer, before him, Nerlinger warned against the euphoria sweeping Munich after the convincing City win, insisting the Bavarians have won nothing yet.

"We haven't yet been through a critical phase in the season yet, when the pressure will come, then we'll see what shape we are in," he said.
