A 21-year-old college student died and 67 other people were arrested over the weekend in Miami during one of the world's biggest electronic music festivals, authorities said Monday.

Authorities were investigating the circumstances the led to the death Friday evening of Adam Levine, a University of Miami student, said Ray Martinez, head of security for the Ultra festival.

More than 165,000 people attended the three-day event, which brings together the best known electronic music performers in the world.

Martinez said festival security personnel noticed Levine was "having difficulties" and called in fire department medics.

"From what we have been told, paramedics initiated medical treatment and transported Adam to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Most unfortunately, Adam passed away at the hospital," he said.

A Miami police spokesman told NBC 6 news that 67 people were arrested during the festival on a variety of charges.

Security at the festival has been stepped up since 2014 when a 21-year-old died of a drug overdose and a guard was seriously injured in a stampede.

Held annually since 1999, the festival has drawn complaints because of incidents arising from it and the traffic congestion in downtown Miami.

This year's event was headlined by David Guetta of France, Kaskade of the United States, British performer Carl Cox, and Holland's Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren.
