Yemen Rebels Must Withdraw from Hodeida, Says UAE
The United Arab Emirates, part of a Saudi-led Arab military alliance in Yemen, on Monday warned Huthi rebels to withdraw from the key port city of Hodeida as coalition-backed government forces advance.
The "Hodeida port operation will continue unless rebels withdraw unconditionally," UAE minister of state for foreign affairs Anwar Gargash told a press conference in Dubai.
He said the Arab coalition, which last week launched an assault to oust the Iran-backed insurgents from the Red Sea port city, has kept the Hodeida-Sanaa road "open for the Huthi militias to withdraw".
Gargash said the operation aims to pressure the Huthis to withdraw from the city and avoid civilian casualties.
Speaking after United Nations ceasefire efforts in Yemen appeared to have fizzled over the weekend, he said the assault aims "to help the UN envoy (Martin Griffiths) in his last chance to convince the Huthis to withdraw unconditionally from the city and avoid any confrontation," he said.
"If this does not happen, be assured we are determined to achieve our targets," he said. "This is not the time to negotiate."
Gargash also accused Iran of using Hodeida port to smuggle sophisticated arms to the Huthis, including ballistic missiles, scores of which have been fired on Saudi Arabia.
The "Iranian fingerprint is all over these arms," he said.
He also denied that French troops have been helping the Arab coalition to take Hodeida, but admitted that France has offered to remove mines when it becomes necessary.
Yemen Rebels Must Withdraw from Hodeida, Says UAE
We have air conditioned buses, says Hezbollah
They are not Yemeni rebels, they are the official government of Yemen since ex President Had I resigned.
Why should they withdraw from Houdaydah because the rich coward american backed gulf demands it?
lol @ 'They are not Yemeni rebels, they are the official government of Yemen since ex President Had I resigned.'
and they were elected right mystic?
They are iranian terrorists who took over the country with a fight simply because others were not armed.
Spare us your iranian made drama
so the shia huthis who represent less than 20% of the Yemeni population are the 'official government' of Yemen according to another shia huthi residing in Lebanon.
More than 40% of Yemens population belongs to the Zaidi sect, and the Ansarullah also have Sunni population in their ranks, what did you think that Sanaa is Houthi only?
They all back the Ansarullah against the Saudi aggression.
"Why should they withdraw from Houdaydah"
They should not; they need to be made mincemeat of and turned into fertilizer in your "Houdaydah".
"They all back the Ansarullah against the Saudi aggression"
lol @ the heretic who just finished taking a poll of the people in Sanaa:)!!
