Iran Test Fires Missile during Navy War Games

Iran successfully test fired a medium-range surface-to-air missile on Sunday during navy war games taking place near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a spokesman for the maneuvers said, according to the official IRNA news agency.

"This medium-range surface-to-air missile is equipped with the latest technology to combat radar-evading targets and intelligent systems which try to disrupt missile navigation," Commodore Mahmoud Mousavi was quoted as saying.

He said it was the first time Iran had tested the missile, which was "domestically designed and built."

It was not immediately known whether the missile was fired from a ship or from land.

The missile's launch and the war games are meant to show Iran's military capabilities at a time that the United States and other Western nations are increasing pressure over Tehran's nuclear program.

The fact that they are taking place near the Strait of Hormuz has focused attention on Iran's threats in recent days that it could close the narrow channel at the entrance to the Gulf if more sanctions are imposed.

In a move that could intensify a brewing Gulf showdown, U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday signed into law tough new sanctions targeting Iran's central bank and financial sector.

Twenty percent of the world's oil passes through the strait, making it the "most important chokepoint" globally, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

All this amounts to nothing..... America and Iran are in bed together about the whole middle east thing. One intimidates the gulf nations, and the other sells them weapons! Ayad Allawi, the Iraqi ex-prime minister said yesterday that "America handed Iraq over to Iran"..... there you have it, from the lions mouth!

Iran is embarking again in a posturing mission in the hopes of creating uncertainties which would drive up the oil prices and gain them stature among the ignorant masses.
The Iranian regime knows very well that their comparatively insignificant missile arsenal's capabilities and their inferior military technical know how are no match to the Western powers'. This is why they will never go into a full confrontation.

The US did not hand Iraq to Iran but most Iraqi Shiites,, by choice, did.
The US could not keep soldiers in Iraq indefinitely in a mostly unappreciated mission by Arabs and Iraqis.
It is up to the Arabs to stop Iran and the US will still assist but it will never make the mistake again of sending troops to die in order to free ungrateful fanatics!

I feel bad about the Iranian people, thanks to their turban headed leaders stupidity there will be very circumstances if Iran moves his tail. and yes US will not make same mistake sending boots. US made their biggest mistake back then to get rid of Saddam he was a watchdog over Iranians.

The Iranian threats to use their navy to block the straights are so laughable. In a situation such as that the Iranian navy would be completely wiped out within days if not hours because of the vast superiority of the US technology. The only thing the Iranians can do would be to launch terrorist attacks to respond or launch rockets and missiles randomly, hoping to hit something.

the filthy zionist information war department halucinates that iranians are not capable of blocking hormuz.

this is a mentality that never learns. from their own mistakes, mush less from other's
