Assad Says Syria 'Capable of Overcoming' Crisis

Syrian state news agency SANA on Thursday quoted President Bashar al-Assad as rejecting any foreign intervention.

"The Syrian people are attached to their unity and Arab identity despite all the difficulties, and understand the breadth of the plots against their security and cohesion," he was quoted as telling a group of people opposed to outside intervention.

Assad stressed that the Syrian people "are capable of overcoming the current situations and building a strong, immune Syria. "

The embattled president noted that "the support of the Arab peoples and the nationalist forces that are attached to their Arab identity strengthens Syria’s immunity and its faith in the future. "

In a televised speech lasting nearly two hours on January 10, Assad vowed to crush "terrorism" with an iron fist and accused outsiders of trying to destabilize his country.

That prompted opposition movements to accuse him of pushing Syria towards civil war and world powers to accuse him of trying to shift the blame for the 10 months of bloodletting in the protests against his regime.

The United Nations says that 5,400 people have been killed by forces loyal to the Assad regime since protests erupted in March.

Damascus routinely blames the violence in Syria on "armed groups" and "terrorists" backed by foreign powers pursuing an agenda of regime change.

I though a while ago he and his Lebanese allies were saying that Syria had won. However his 4th brigade of super-elite troops just lost in the battle of Zabadani.

He should tell his mother he has trouble, and Maher had to negotiate a withdrawl of troops from Zabadani.

Let him live in the alternative reality..with or without the security council.. these are some mathematical facts: the size of the mutiny in the army is growing versus time and the economy is shrinking versus time, both are happening at a slow pace but nevertheless happening. Assad 4th brigade became pathetically incapable of conquering small areas like zabadani and bab amro from a handful of fighters without risking serious losses..that is a clear indication that after 11 months the Assad army is starting to tire. You can do some math and figure out what would be the size/effect of the Free Syrian army and the damage to the economy ten months from now. Add to this equation some safe zones on the border of Turkey and calculate the outcome. It might take a long process maybe, but the fall of the regime is a mathematical certainty.

He's living in a dream world. Either Assef or Maher has cut off his cell phone and internet access or he is truly inflicted with the Muammar Khaddafi Denial Disease....The Syrian Psycho: Bashar Assad.

He is either cut off from cell phone and internet access, by Maher or Assef, or is in complete denial and suffering from the Muammar Khaddafi Denial Disease, which is only cured by a shot to the head. His days are numbered. The Syrian Psycho: Bashar Assad....
