Report: Mikati won't convene cabinet unless there is major emergency

Caretaker PM and PM-designate Najib Mikati will not convene the caretaker cabinet after the end of President Michel Aoun’s term unless there is a major emergency, a media report said on Sunday.

“Mikati won’t call for cabinet sessions and this is what he has told to ministers Walid Fayyad and Walid Nassar,” a prominent ministerial source told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.

“Mikati is insisting that he will not convene cabinet unless there a situation of utmost necessity which requires cabinet to convene to take a stance on a major issue related to the country’s national security or a grand and unexpected event,” the source added.
