Christian forces to meet in Bkirki today
A Christian political meeting will be held at 4pm Thursday in Bkirki to discuss and approve a political document prepared by the Maronite patriarchate.
According to MTV, the various Christian parliamentary blocs and parties will take part in the meeting except for the Marada Movement.
“The Bkirki document warns of the decline of Christian presence in the public sector and the threats of the Lebanese and non-Lebanese illegitimate weapons, Syrian displacement and the (possible) naturalization of the Palestinians,” MTV reported.
The document also “tackles Lebanon’s historic and free role, which is gradually turning into a theological, totalitarian and ideological state,” MTV added.
The Nidaa al-Watan newspaper meanwhile said that the meeting is aimed at discussing the remarks of the Christian political parties over Bkirki’s paper.
“Should there be an agreement on all points, (Maronite Patriarch Beshara) al-Rahi will move to the second phase,” it said.
Bkirki sources meanwhile told the daily that “the Christian forces do not have a lot of remarks” and that the paper “focuses on key points related to the presidency, national partnership, the Christian role and the war and peace decisions.”
The sources, however, expected the meeting to be “like the previous meetings, due to the Free Patriotic Movement’s refusal to take a stance on Hezbollah and its arms.”
History rarely provides a black & white opportunity for a nation in distress.
Option between catastrophic balance of terror and permanent peace with huge dividends.
Balance of terror is compliment of evil trilogy: Hizb/Hamas/Netanyahu+company
Permanent peace and prosperity for Palestinians and Lebanese hinge on Lebanon.
Lebanon by disarming Hizb & Hamas is most critical player for regional permanent peace.
This lead to 2-state solution & deposing Netanyahu & racist settlers & ministers by world community.
Permanent peace requires massive investments (>$200 billion) in Gaza, West Bank & Lebanon to insure vibrant and prosperous economies and full employment away from militias.
Otherwise balance of terror only add miseries, radicalism and kill Gulf economic visions.
Cedar Revolution II is the answer. Million plus demonstrators for no arms outside army followed by ultimatum to Hizb/Hamas to surrender all arms.
Fully agree in principle @Gebran_sons. I have a small rant then a question for you at the end.
All top-level Lebanese politicians are corrupt, self-serving, and revert to identity/sectarian politics when their power is threatened, that’s why kellon ya3ne kellon.
FPM leadership and their supporters are at an existential turning point.
FPM supporter: the last 5 years in hindsight, do you really believe the MoU with Hezb was a good thing all things considered?
If yes, realize you are buying into a worldview of misery where the mullahs in Iran set your values and guide your path. If no, are you still justifying the MoU on the grounds of pragmatism as in for balance of power? If so, look where we are, literally second worst country on earth after Afghanistan based on an index of human happiness. The only way is for you to sever ALL ties with FPM and vote your according to your conscience next time.
question gebran. For Cedar 2 to happen, sadly, the only mobilizing outcome would be Hezb being threatened such that they murder a leading opposition figure, but they're too smart for that. Yes people need to mobilize anyway bass how do you solve the collective action problem? Our opposition leaders are legitimately worried of being assassinated if they push too hard and who can blame them, would love to hear your thoughts on how to achieve this grass-roots mass mobilization minus the huge sudden shock to the system (compared to the slow burn we've had). Salam.
Hizb/FPM memorandum was the source of all evil. Hizb got everything it wanted to swallow Lebanon whereas Aoun got only personal benefits. However, now time for unity to benefit from this historical opportunity. Hamas is Caput. Netanyahu & radicals will only stay in power if Hizb keep its arms. Both are extremely unpopular. Time for a regional deal by disarming Hizb/Hamas for permaanent regional peace necessary for Gulf economic visions & using billions to invest in South, Bekaa, Akar, build tunnels, monorail, airports & ports, and invest in people education and wellbeing. Hizb is smart will accept disarmament for benefit to his community as he has been exposed as nothing more than Iran's Foreign Legion. We in diaspora will hapilly fund Cedar Revolution II for Lebanon rebirth.
If the meeting is still going on, it should consider scrapping the preferential treatment of Christians in Article 24 of the Constitution (half of legislative seats). This "accord" is Lebanon's suicide pact.
boulos, why do you insult idiots? chrisrushlau is not an idiot, he's much much more than that. Family, "friends" and even Noam Chomsky will confirm this.
