Israeli police said Wednesday they "neutralized" a suspected assailant who stabbed and wounded two men in a shopping center in the country's north.

The police in a statement said they were treating the incident in the town of Karmiel as "a suspected terror attack".

It comes amid soaring tensions as the Israel-Hamas war rages in the Gaza Strip.

Paramedics said they rushed the two victims to hospital, one in critical condition and the other in serious condition.

No details were immediately given of the assailant's condition or identity.

Since the Gaza war erupted with Hamas's October 7 attack on southern Israel, violence has soared across the region and there have been several deadly attacks in Israeli cities.
