Berri's aide says Lebanon not against US-French truce supervision
Lebanon has recently agreed with U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein on a draft agreement that was supposed to be presented to Israel and “so far we have not received any remarks or responses regarding that formula that we discussed,” Speaker Nabih Berri’s aide MP Ali Hassan Khalil said.
“No new phone call has taken place between Hochstein and Speaker Nabih Berri and Hochstein told us that he is continuing his mission regarding the efforts to reach an agreement,” Khalil told Al-Jazeera television.
“We’re waiting to obtain a new draft containing an agreement proposal,” Khalil added.
Stressing that “Lebanon’s stance is clear, which is commitment to all stipulations of Resolution 1701 by both parties,” Khalil said Lebanon insists on “clear mechanisms for the resolution’s implementation,” noting that Lebanon is “not opposed to U.S. and French participation in the monitoring of the ceasefire.”
“We do not have reservations over the accurate and literal implementation of Resolution 1701,” he added.
Media reports have said that Berri is opposed to any German or British roles in the ceasefire supervision.
Berri needs to shut the hell up and not make demands on the truce agreement against British or German roles. Move to Tehran, you idiot.
“We do not have reservations over the accurate and literal implementation of Resolution 1701,” he added
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701
Operative Paragraph 3
The importance of full control of Lebanon by the government of Lebanon
Operative Paragraph 8
Disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon
No armed forces other than UNIFIL and Lebanese will be south of the Litani
River
The Resolution also calls for the "full implementation of the relevant provisions of the Taif Accords, and of resolutions 1559 (2004) and 1680 (2006), that require the disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon, so that, pursuant to the Lebanese cabinet decision of July 27, 2006, there will be no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than that of the Lebanese state."
Is Berri moving toward bringing Hochstein's language to a vote in parliament? We don't need to have "consultation discussions" beforehand, do we?
Stop the foot dragging. Time to literally implement the peace agreed to nearly 2 decades ago. If only we had already, then think of all the good Lebanese citizens who would still be alive, would would not have left for another country, who would not be impoverished at their own home ...
