Neemat Frem officially announces his nomination for presidency
Independent MP Neemat Frem of Keserwan on Thursday officially announced his presidential nomination.
“Amid the developments that our country and region have witnessed, and after a January 9 date was set for the presidential vote, I see that a new dawn in every sense of the word is beginning in Lebanon and the Middle East,” Frem said at a press conference.
“It is a dawn that offers us a precious opportunity that we must quickly seize, seeing as it may not last for long, and we all realize the magnitude of the opportunities that we have wasted over more than 20 years,” the candidate added.
Below are the commitments that Frem announced in his speech:
- Implementing the “cessation of hostilities” agreement between Lebanon and Israel “as a mechanism for enforcing U.N. resolution 1701 with all its stipulations”
- Forming a government that would “seriously and fully implement Resolution 1701 and monopolize arms in the hands of the legitimate forces”
- Endorsing a comprehensive rescue and reformist plan
- Implementing and developing the Taif Agreement
- Devising and implementing reconstruction plans
- Approving a “decent social protection” plan
- Financial recovery and the rights of depositors
- The judiciary’s independence
- Restructuring administration, modernizing the state’s operational system and achieving decentralization
- Addressing the Syrian refugee crisis
- Producing a modern electoral law
- Restoring confidence and credibility to attract capital and investments and create jobs
- Building a productive and pioneering state

Be courageous and say what all Lebanese including majority of Shia are eager to hear: If HizbIran does not hand its weapons and arm depots within a two month period, then the Army will take them by force. It is OK for the army to lose few soldiers to liberate Lebanon from this Iranian brigade that have sucked the life of our country and brought misery and oppression throughout the land. HizbIran occupied Lebanon, destroyed our institutions and education system, bankrupted our nation and banking system, dried all investments, scared away foreign corporations, appointed puppet presidents and prime ministers, isolated the country from its Arab surrounding, invited Israel invasion and untold destruction, and transform the best Arab country into a beggar nation with no dignity. The whole country will volunteer to join the army to restore sovereignty and rid Lebanon once for all of this virulent cancer so Lebanon and the Shia community can taste freedom and independence.
