Hezbollah member, 2 daughters killed in explosion in Tayr Harfa
A Hezbollah member and his two daughters were killed Friday in an explosion of a house in the southern border town of Tayr Harfa, media reports said.
The man, called Abbas Haidar, is a Hezbollah official, LBCI said, adding that his two daughters who were with him were also killed and other members of his family were injured.
Israeli airstrikes meanwhile targeted the Tebna area in the southern town of Bissariyeh near Sidon, after earlier overnight strikes on the eastern border region and Iqlim al-Tuffah.
Visiting U.S. deputy special envoy for the Middle East vowed Friday that the U.S. is "very committed" to the "firm date" of Israel's supposed withdrawal from south Lebanon on February 18, adding that Hezbollah's presence in Lebanon's new government was a red line, as Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri and PM-designate Nawaf Salam failed to agree on a new government line-up.
A fragile Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire has been in place since November 27, after more than a year of hostilities including two months of all-out war.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel has continued to carry out strikes on Lebanon.
Under the deal, Lebanon's military was to deploy in the south alongside U.N. peacekeepers as the Israeli army withdrew over a 60-day period. Hezbollah was also to pull back its forces north of the Litani River and dismantle any remaining military infrastructure in the south.
The withdrawal period for Israeli forces was extended to February 18 after they missed the original January 26 deadline.
