Russian President Vladimir Putin began talks with U.S. President Donald Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff in Saint Petersburg on Friday, the Kremlin said.

Moscow released footage of Putin greeting Witkoff and earlier said the pair would discuss the Ukraine conflict, but that no breakthrough was expected.

U.S. President Donald Trump meanwhile appeared to criticize Russia's lack of movement on stopping the Ukraine war.

"Russia has to get moving," Trump wrote Friday on his Truth Social app. He said the war -- started by Russia invading its neighbor -- is "senseless" and "should have never happened."

Putin is said to be interested in taking two million Palestinians from Gaza and moving them to some place. Meanwhile in Washington, Trump asked reporters, "Do you know what 'NATO' stands for?" One reporter jokingly replied, "Not all that organized?" Trump insisted, "No, really; if you know, tell me."
