Assad Says Syria to Pursue Reforms, Crush 'Terrorism'

Syria is determined to press on with reforms and to fight "terrorism," President Bashar al-Assad, who has been battling a one-year uprising against his regime, said on Tuesday.
"The Syrian people, who have in the past managed to crush foreign plots ... have again proven their capacity to defend the nation and to build a new Syria through their determination to pursue reforms along with the fight against foreign-backed terrorism," Assad said, quoted by state news agency SANA.
Assad, speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Ukrainian parliament, said his country was clearly being targeted by outside forces seeking to undermine his regime.
"Any country draws its strength from the backing of its people," he said.
The 46-year-old president has consistently blamed the one-year revolt threatening his regime on foreign-backed "terrorist gangs".
The fierce government crackdown to crush the revolt has left more than 7,500 people dead, according to the United Nations.

i say cruise missiles, everytime the cowardly syrian army fires one shell on civilians, the US should send a missile to attcks Assads targets in damscus, such as military installations, academies, ministries etc.. efter a while this tyrant will realize that his behaviour will not be tolerated anylonger. and who cares what China and Russia think

Any settlement in the end will include the departure of this moron and his cronies and the russians know that full well, assad is politicaly finished. The west/russia do not want the army & institutions to disintegrate because they need them to maintain stability and status quo peace kermal 3yoon israel. The syrian people are paying the biblical price in the meantime until the details of a political settlement is worked out. Anyone who thinks this moron will stay president is also a moron who does not understand the political realities: world powers do not say to a 3rd world president to go and he stays, they were the reason this moron and his family were in power to begin with.

The Syrian people to pursue the revolution, the army to pursue defection, the world to pursue isolation, the economy to pursue destruction and in the end the regime is the one that will be crushed.

The Syrian people will crush the terrorism of Assad and his alawi gangs. Hopefully other groups will not keep standing with them in this because history will judge them badly and by history I mean the post-Assad majority.

Using the words terrorist for the Syrian terrorists makes real terrorists look like angels. These Syrian Terrorists are the cream of the the evil crop. They must be crushed with brute force.
