U.S., European and Arab officials gathered for the "Friends of Syria" meeting in Rome promised on Thursday to provide more concrete assistance to the opposition battling President Bashar Assad's regime.

"The ministers pledged more political and material support to the (National) Coalition as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people and to get more concrete assistance inside Syria," host country Italy said in a statement after the talks between 11 nations and the Syrian opposition.

The statement "underlined the need to change the balance of power on the ground,” adding that efforts would be made to help rebel forces "exercise self-defense.”

The statement expressed concern over the "appalling conditions" suffered by Syrian civilians and urged Assad's regime to end "indiscriminate bombardments against populated areas."

The statement also deplored "the unabated arms supply to the regime by third countries."

The statement praised the opposition National Coalition for its reform efforts and plans for it to this weekend choose the head of an interim government.

very important plan that kerry is offering iran, transferring the arms and hizballah army to irak:
1)maliki said yesterday that assad falling means civil war in irak and lebanon(maliki is hizb da'wa the iranian hand in irak).
2)kerry answering that iran instead of losing the war on the two fronts, it can keep irak(maliki is in a dangerous position between the kurds and the sunni arabs)
the biggest winners in lebanon are:the state of lebanon, nabih berri, and...guess who.
it all depends on khamenei, just observe him intelligently

I guess the statement forgot to mention unabated supply of arms(N.Y. Times) supplied by KSA, QATAR, TURKEY, and all those mercanaries paid by these same countries going to Syrian so called revolutionaries.

Look at the "rebel leader" without necktie...Does that say something? But no the rebels are open minded and have no hidden Islamic agenda...thats why Turkey is helping them...ya its all democratic same like Egypt. Tunisia. Lybia. Why do u think the west is helping the rebels...is it for democracy? NO no no its to create chaos among these rebels and distract them from Israel. Don't u know the old saying: Farr`eq tassud.

I am not defender pedophiles in the church, but at least our priests will go to prison if they are caught and live their lives as shamed outcasts. In Saudi Arabia, I am afraid Josh Bustany is partially correct, underage children is an embedded element of Saudi culture. Child marriage (pedophilia by western standard) is not a crime there, it's promoted at the highest levels including their sick Grand Mufti who endorsed it last year. Just Google it.
