Close Damascus ally Iran expects Bashar Assad to remain Syria's president until elections next year, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Saturday.
"The official position of Iran is that... Assad will remain legitimate president until the next... election" in 2014, Salehi said at a news conference with his visiting Syrian counterpart, Walid al-Muallem.
Muallem arrived on Saturday for talks aimed at ending the nearly two-year conflict in Syria that the United Nations says has killed at least 70,000 people and is tearing the country apart.
His visit comes after a week of intense international diplomacy aimed at ending the bloodshed.
Salehi threw Iran's weight behind Damascus's call this week for dialogue with the armed opposition, calling the initiative a "positive step," but reiterated Assad's regime has "no choice" but to keep fighting rebels.
"We believe that the crisis has no military solution and only a Syrian political one," said the Iranian minister.
"Iran firstly wants stop to the bloodshed but the Syrian government has no choice but to fight against the terrorists and we cannot ask the Syrian government not to do so and leave them alone," he added.
Muallem condemned the announcement by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday that Washington would provide $60 million in "non-lethal" assistance to support the Syrian political opposition.
"When the U.S. (says it has) allocated $60 million to the opposition and this opposition is killing people, I don't understand this initiative... are there any weapons that do not kill people? Who are you kidding?" Muallem asked.
He repeated calls for pressure to be exerted on Turkey and Qatar, among the main supporters of the rebels alongside Western countries.
While in Tehran, Muallem is also due to meet the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, Mehr news agency reported.

If Assad were elected in a real democratic way, Syria would have saved all the tragedies that it's people are witnessing today.
God help all the innocent Syrians on both sides. Not even your worst enemy deserves it.

Humm, so that's what happens to a regular person after you over fill him up with hot air, terrifying!

Dear love4bashar Sir, It gives me a great pleasure to write you this. I hope you find it of interest. I am with Jabulani & Blair chartered private auditors for various Financial institutions and major firms here in South Africa. I would like to use this means to ask for your assistance in a financial transaction.I have come in contact with some funds that have been inactive for some years now and careful investigation proved the original depositor of the funds died more than six years ago. All attempts to reach the suppose beneficiary of the deposit were fruitless and before it is forfeited to the state, I will like to move it outside now and this is were I need your assistance.According to law, all unattended deposit beyond seven years will be forfeited to the state, hence my contacting you to see how these funds could be moved to a safe a haven in your country, as the branch manager of the bank is also in on this
I look forward to hearing from you and my gratitude for your patience

All the Arab leaders are traitors. The difference is some of they say it openly. And others claim they are muqawim and mumanig but in fact they are traitors and liars. Israel knows that the threat is not from Iran or alawis but it is the sunnah who pose a real threat, therefore they help bashar as much possible even though they may deny this. Remember his regime protected Israel for 40 years.

Don't whitewash israel just because the arabs as well has done wrong against themselves. Besides, there are hundreds of millions of arabs, while only 5 million "israeli" jews so it's expected that there would a higher ratio of arab-arab violence, it doesn't whitewash israel from anything, especially since they came from foreign lands to do their opression. The arab on arab on arab violence is the same type of violence that exists in south america among the latinos as an example, it doesn't mean that it's ok to install an israel in brazil so it can kill the brazilians and wage wars on neighbours, steal water, land, houses, books, cattle, trees and a million other crimes and then say "well, you southern americans have killed eachother more than we have killed you".

By holding israel to account of it's crimes, your not blaming your own faults on others. Israel deserves to be blamed for a lot more than it is being blamed for even. Likewise, it doesn't mean that arabs as well shouldn't take blame for their/our misstakes. They/we should and by they i mean those who follow or love these leaders whether tribal or political who are responsible for it. Just like zionist jews deserve blame for israel, sheep arabs who follow their own criminals (assad, saudi king, jordan king, mubarak, geagea, ben ali, emir of qatar, jumblat, arafat, berri, bahrain king, oman sultan, moroccan king etc etc the list is long) also deserve blame.

Isn't it funny how arab sounding names always manage to blast Israel in comments about an article that is nothing to do with Israel.
It's even funnier that Omar actually is blaming arabs for fighting arabs yet still has to talk about Israel. Talk about being sheep, arabs are so brainwashed they don't even realize it, like Omar. Omar lists all the arab dictator types but doesn't realize that most of them, including the mullars and open necked shirt president, are happy to use Israel for scaremongering, their scapegoat to hide all their crimes and corruption and failed economies.
Ah, and do include Hamas and Hezbollah, whose simple existence is only to 'resist' Israel. Muslims, do try and get a life !
