Report: Qaida Set Up Anti-drone Cells, Secret U.S. Documents Show

Al-Qaida's leaders have set up cells of engineers to try to shoot down, disable or hijack U.S. drones, The Washington Post reported late Tuesday citing top-secret U.S. intelligence documents.

The al-Qaida leadership is "hoping to exploit the technological vulnerabilities of a weapons system that has inflicted huge losses against the terrorist network," the Post said online.

"Although there is no evidence that al-Qaida has forced a drone crash or successfully interfered with flight operations, U.S. intelligence officials have closely tracked the group's persistent efforts to develop a counterdrone strategy since 2010," the report said, citing the secret documents.

The al-Qaida commanders are keen to achieve "a technological breakthrough (that) could curb the U.S. drone campaign, which has killed an estimated 3,000 people over the past decade," the Post reported.

Drone strikes have forced al-Qaida operatives to limit their movements in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia and other places.

They have also taken a toll among civilians in those countries, something that has fueled anti-U.S. sentiment.

Asaf: let me apologize on behalf of my uneducated Lebanese countrymen. They have is jewishphobia as much as they have a palestinianphobia. Lebanon is a very racist country. You should see how they treat their maids. You'd get the shock of your life. This (unjustified) superiority syndrom is paralyzing the country..... We re on standby, not evolving at all..... Quite the opposite actually.

Dear Asaf: The Lebanese have a phobia regarding Zionism, and it is laughable. Having said that, I don't care one way or another. One thing though, we would all appreciate if the Palestinian camps and their weapons are cleaned out of Lebanon. My suggestion is for them to return to their homes. The only thing that is preventing it from happening is most likely their own stupidity, Israel and KSA. If we get Israel to commit to their return (we'll have the U.N. confiscate their weapons and give it to the good/moderate "Free Syrian" militia, I'll personally deal with the stupidity and the KSA.

I wonder if Al Qaeda got help from the LF and Kataeb with their anti-drone thingies.

Missing VINCENT 05 September 2013, 03:24

I don't think that the Kataebs and/or the LF are such technologically advanced groups to possess and share the knowledge. Having said that, even if they were, why would they help Al-Qaeda? Unless, Al-Qaeda is something more than we are told to believe, and these KSA alliances have direct supervision, control and say as to what, when or how Al-Qaeda does and operates. In don't think so. May be the Muslim Bros., and hopefully it has not gotten too much out of their hands in case Qaeda gets out of control.
