Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressed on Monday that the new wage scale isn't a challenge between his cabinet and the Economic Committees after a session at the Baabda Palace to discuss the matter was postponed.

“We are committed to refer the new wage scale to the parliament. We are still discussing the repercussions of approving it completely,” Miqati told reporters at the Grand Serail after chairing a meeting for a ministerial committee tasked with studying the new wage scale for the public sector.

President Michel Suleiman officially postponed on Saturday a national dialogue session set to take place at the Baabda Palace.

According to a statement issued by the presidential palace, Suleiman informed all-party talks participants the postponement of Monday's session without setting a new date.

Contacts are ongoing among the rival political parties over the formation of a national salvation cabinet, media reports said on Tuesday.

Sources told the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa newspaper that officials are seeking to find the suitable candidates to lead the cabinet, which will benefit from a regional and international support.

Families of the 11 Lebanese pilgrims kidnapped in Syria briefly blocked on Tuesday the road to the presidential palace in Baabda to protest the ongoing abduction of their loves ones.

One of the relatives explained that the protest is a message to President Michel Suleiman to urge him to exert more efforts to resolve the case of the pilgrims.

President Michel Suleiman stressed on Saturday the importance of committing to the Baabda declaration to triumph over the developments that the region is passing through.

“Disassociating (the country) from the turmoil in neighboring countries is the only way to prevent Lebanon from being affected by the negative repercussion in the region,” Suleiman said after meeting with security delegations at the Baabda Palace.

The cabinet convened at the Baabda Palace failed on Monday to refer the new wage scale to the parliament despite warnings by the Syndicate Coordination Committee to stage yet another strike to protest the government procrastination.

“The cabinet decided to implement economy reforms in parallel with referring the draft law to the parliament,” Labor Minister Salim Jreissati told reporters in a briefing following the session.

President Michel Suleiman is hinging on foreign support to guarantee the success of the national dialogue set to be held on Thursday at the Baabda Palace, the Kuwaiti al-Rai newspaper reported.

Sources told the newspaper published on Monday that the March 14 opposition is expected to attend the all-party talks to express its support to Suleiman's recent stances.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat's initiative to end the political deadlock in Lebanon between the rival March 8 and 14 camps is being coordinated with President Michel Suleiman, reported As Safir newspaper on Tuesday.

His efforts are taking place with the “complete coordination” Suleiman, he told the daily, with a PSP delegation set to visit the presidential palace later on Tuesday.

Ministerial sources doubted on Wednesday that the draft law of the new wage scale will be referred to parliament during the cabinet session scheduled to be held at the Baabda Palace.

In comments published in al-Akhbar newspaper, the sources said that the salary adjustments will not be approved, pointing out that some modifications still require thorough discussions.

Prime Minister Najib Miqati revealed on Saturday that he has taken the decision to “no longer hang on to the premiership,” urging the formation of a national unity government.

He said: “I suspended my decision to resign at President Michel Suleiman's request.”
