Hamas-run authorities in the Gaza Strip are investigating a senior member of the Palestinian Islamist movement over unspecified "irregularities", a source in the office of another senior Hamas official said Sunday.

The implication of a high-ranking Hamas member in misdeeds could potentially tarnish the reputation of the Islamist group, which won a landslide victory in Palestinian elections in 2006 largely because of its reputation for honesty and incorruptibility.

Israeli troops fired tear gas and live bullets at Palestinians throwing stones Friday near the border fence in northern Gaza, the army said, with Palestinian medics saying 17 men were wounded.

Clashes are common on Fridays, with regular protests near the border in support of Gaza farmers who say troops uprooted their trees to create a buffer zone.

Negotiators are close to striking a long-awaited deal on compensation for Turkish victims of a deadly Israeli raid on a Gaza aid flotilla four years ago, a Turkish official said Monday.

The May 2010 Israeli assault on the Turkish ship the Mavi Marmara while it was in international waters sent relations between Israel and Turkey to an all-time low.

Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket into southern Israel on Saturday evening but caused no casualties or damage, the Israeli military said, the fourth such attack this week.

"No damage or injuries were reported" in the latest strike northwest of the Negev desert, the Israeli army statement said.

The Israeli military denied media reports it shot down a rocket fired from Gaza at southern Israel on Thursday, saying the projectile fell on open ground.

"There was no interception," a spokesman told Agence France Presse. "A rocket fell."

Israel has offered Turkey $20 million in compensation to the families of those killed and wounded in its botched 2010 raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla, Haaretz newspaper reported on Monday.

Citing unnamed Western diplomats briefed on ongoing negotiations with Ankara, the daily said Turkey had yet to respond to the Israeli offer.

Israeli soldiers shot and wounded 10 Palestinians near the West Bank town of Ramallah during a protest Friday over the killing of a teenager, Palestinian medics and security sources said.

In Gaza, meanwhile, medics said five more Palestinians were wounded by Israeli army gunfire near the border fence with Israel.

Israeli fighter jets attacked in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Friday morning, sources on both sides said, hours after a rocket fired from the Palestinian enclave hit the Jewish state.

Palestinian security sources said two strikes targeted training sites of Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas' armed wing, in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza.

Israel is to allow the entry of more building materials into the Gaza Strip, the defense ministry said Sunday, and a U.N. refugee agency said they should be delivered soon.

"About 1,000 tonnes of cement and building materials will enter the Gaza Strip for storm damage restoration and other projects of U.N. agencies," the Israeli defense ministry said in a statement.

A clash seems to be looming between Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Islamic Jihad, as they abandon pledges made under a fragile ceasefire that ended the last full-scale war in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.

Israel recently targeted two of the group's militants for firing rockets at it, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to teach Gaza-based militants a "lesson."
