Pakistani Boat Blows Self Up after India Navy Chase

The crew of a Pakistani fishing boat blew up and sank their vessel after trying to evade capture at the hands of the Indian navy in a high-speed chase at sea, officials said Friday. 

All four people on board the vessel from near the Pakistani port city of Karachi are believed to have been killed in the dramatic episode in the Arabian Sea on New Year's Eve, according to India's defense ministry.

Pakistan Court Extends Detention of 'Mumbai Attacks Mastermind'

A Pakistani court Thursday sent the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks to jail for two weeks in the latest round of a tussle over his detention that has worsened ties with India.

Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, accused over the terror siege in India's commercial capital, was granted bail on December 18 by an anti-terror court but authorities later detained him under a public order law which was suspended by Islamabad High Court on Monday.

Pakistan, India Swap Lists of Nuclear Facilities, Prisoners

Pakistan and India on Thursday exchanged lists of their nuclear sites under an agreement barring them from attacking each other's atomic facilities in the event of war, officials said.

The annual New Year's Day exchange was established under a 1988 agreement. The neighbours, who have fought three wars, have also set up a telephone hotline to prevent accidential nuclear conflict.

Border Guard Killed in Exchange of Fire in Indian Kashmir

An Indian border guard was killed and another wounded in an exchange of fire with Pakistan forces Wednesday along their border in Kashmir, officials said.

Pakistani Rangers opened fire in the Samba sector, 350 kilometers (217 miles) from the region's main city of Srinagar, and the Indian guards retaliated, said  Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector General D. Parikh.

Police on Wednesday formally charged an Uber taxi driver with the rape of a passenger in New Delhi, a report said, in a case that has reignited anger over women's safety in India.

Shiv Kumar Yadav, 32, was arrested and remanded in custody after the 25-year-old passenger accused him of raping her when she fell asleep in his cab on the night of December 5.
