Iran Eyes Nuclear Deal during Visit by IAEA's Amano

Iran expects to sign an accord with the chief of the U.N. nuclear watchdog on Monday on its controversial atomic ambitions, Tehran's ambassador to the agency said Saturday.

"The Islamic republic of Iran has presented a new proposal that includes concrete actions, and we foresee that the text will be finalized on Monday and that the two sides will reach agreement," Reza Najafi told state television.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Friday that major questions remained unresolved in talks in Geneva that have raised hopes of a deal on Iran's disputed nuclear program.

"France wants a credible agreement on the Iranian nuclear program. For the moment, major questions have not yet been resolved, but we are working in Geneva in order, if possible, to achieve" a deal, Fabius said in a statement.

IAEA Head to Visit Iran on Monday

The U.N. atomic watchdog said Friday that its chief has accepted an invitation to visit Iran, raising hopes for a long-stalled probe into Tehran's suspected bomb-making efforts as tough talks continued in Geneva.

International Atomic Energy Agency director general Yukiya Amano "will travel to Tehran on 10 November to meet senior Iranian leaders on Monday, 11 November, with the aim of strengthening dialogue and cooperation," it said.

Egyptian police on Thursday arrested the Cairo bureau chief of an Iranian news station and a former Islamist lawmaker, security officials said.

Ahmed Fahim Abdel Azim al-Suifi, the Egyptian head of the Cairo office of Iran's Arab-language station Al-Alam, was arrested in an apartment with ex-senate member Essam Ismail Farrag, the officials said.

Sunni Rebels Claim Iran Prosecutor Assassination

The Sunni extremist group Jaish-ul Adl has claimed responsibility for the assassination of a public prosecutor in Iran's restive southeast, media reports said Thursday.

The reports came a day after Mousa Nouri, prosecutor of the city of Zabol which lies near the Afghan border in Sistan-Baluchestan province, was gunned down in a "terrorist attack," according to officials.

Israel Opposes Alleged Iran Nuclear Proposal

Israel urged world powers on Wednesday to reject what it said was an Iranian offer to partly cut back its nuclear program in return for an easing of Western sanctions.

"Israel in the last few hours has learned that a proposal will be brought before the P5+1 in Geneva in which Iran will cease all enrichment at 20 percent and slow down work on the heavy water reactor in Arak, and will receive in return the easing of sanctions," an official told Agence France Presse on condition of anonymity.

Official: Iran Prosecutor Killed in Attack

A public prosecutor in Iran's restive southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan was killed Wednesday in a "terrorist attack," the head of the provincial judiciary said.

"Around 7:30 a.m (0400 GMT), Mousa Nouri, the prosecutor of the city of Zabol, came under attack by unknown people," the Fars news agency quoted Ebrahim Hamidi as saying.

UNHCR: Iran's 840,000 Afghan Refugees Not Forgotten

The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees has "not forgotten" the 840,000 Afghan refugees in Iran, an official from the body said on a visit to Tehran on Tuesday.

"The whole world is at the moment very much focused on the Syria crisis, it is also important that UNHCR show we have not forgotten the Afghan refugees," UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner for Operations Janet Lim said.
