Lebanon Pleads for Help in Dealing with Refugees

Lebanon pleaded Monday for more international support to tackle the huge influx of refugees from the war-ravaged country, warning the burden could destabilize the whole region.

"We are calling on the international community to bear its responsibility," caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour told diplomats gathered in Geneva, slamming the lack of assistance from outside the region.

Jordan Protests Syria Shelling

Jordan has protested to Syria after a shell landed in the kingdom's north during clashes between the Syrian army and rebels, the information minister said on Sunday.

"The foreign ministry has sent a written protest to the Syrian embassy in Amman after a shell landed Thursday night on Al-Falah mosque, near the industrial park in the northern city of Ramtha," Mohammad Momani said in a statement carried by state-run Petra news agency.

Hackers have attacked the official website of the Jordanian prime minister's office, the information minister said on Sunday, in a protest over rising prices.

"We have restored the website after it was hacked last night for several hours," Mohammad Momani told Agence France Presse.

Three Syrian men have gang-raped a 14-year-old girl in Jordan's Zaatari refugee camp, a government official said on Tuesday.

"Police have arrested a Syrian man and are searching for two other Syrian men who gang-raped a 14-year-old Syrian girl in Zaatari on Monday," Brigadier Waddah Hmud, head of the Syrian refugee department, told Agence France Presse.

Jordan Islamists Slam Egypt's Brotherhood Ban

Jordan's opposition Islamists on Tuesday denounced an Egyptian court's decision to ban all Muslim Brotherhood activities, saying the ruling sought to "reestablish oppression and tyranny."
