Nasrallah: STL Funding to Be Put to Govt. Vote if No Consensus Reached

Hizbullah Chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stressed on Monday that his party is against the funding of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon probing the assassination of ex-Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

“The cabinet will resolve the issue when it’s the right time, but we refuse to fund the STL,” Nasrallah said in an interview with Hizbullah's al-Manar television.

Suleiman Calls for Keeping Constitutional Council Away from Politics

President Michel Suleiman called on Monday for amending the law that established the Constitutional Council to keep it away from the bickering between Lebanese politicians.

“It’s necessary to entrust the task of interpreting the Constitution to the Constitutional Council and this requires an amendment,” Suleiman said in a speech at the opening of the conference of the Union of Arab Constitutional Courts and Councils at the Bristol Hotel in Beirut.
