Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Ahmed Fatfat lashed out at Speaker Nabih Berri, considering him the reason behind the country's political crisis.

“He (Berri) is the problem, especially regarding his provocative approach with us (the March 14 alliance) in the parliament,” Fatfat said in comments published in al-Liwaa newspaper.

Hizbullah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Wednesday that the Palestinian resistance's experience in the most recent conflict with Israel should be studied and evaluated for its “greatness”.

"The U.S., the West, Arabs and Muslims, Lebanese, Palestinians and Gaza should all learn lessons from this experience,” said Nasrallah in a speech he gave on the seventh day of Ashoura, adding that the fighters' performance has reinforced the strength and the power that will lead to “this nation's victory”.

Two rockets were fired from south Lebanon towards the Israeli border on Wednesday evening, a Lebanese security official told Agence France Press.

"Two rockets were fired, one fell in what was clearly Lebanese territory, the other went towards Israel," the official said on condition of anonymity. It was not immediately clear where the second rocket fell.

President Michel Suleiman on Wednesday stressed that the current circumstances require the rival parties to show willingness to engage in national dialogue, noting that the Baabda Declaration is the only means to find a national defense strategy.

“Independence Day is an occasion to remember the joy of freedom and evaluate the bitterments and achievements of the past decades,” the president said in a televised address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day.

Syrian President Bashar Assad congratulated on Wednesday President Michel Suleiman on the occasion of Lebanon's Independence Day.

The Syrian national news agency SANA reported that Assad's letter contained a felicitation from the Syrian people to “their brothers in Lebanon”.

Former guerrilla in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) George Ibrahim Abdallah was granted parole Wednesday but remained behind bars following an appeal by the state.

Abdallah, who has spent 28 years in French jails, was arrested in 1984 and sentenced to life in prison three years later for his alleged involvement in the 1982 murders of U.S. military attache Charles Robert Ray and Israeli diplomat Yacov Barsimantov.

Hizbullah noted on Wednesday that Lebanon's Independence Day is a very important occasion for the Lebanese people due to the principles of loyalty and sacrifice that it entails.

It called in a statement the Lebanese people to unite around the equation of the people, army, and resistance.

French President Francois Hollande said on Wednesday that his country will not meddle in Lebanon's internal politics, urging all politicians to cooperate together to overcome the current crisis.

"We call on the Lebanese people to be aware of the importance of their country's stability and unity,” Hollande said after meeting with Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Miqati in Paris.

Palestinian refugees living in Lebanese camps celebrated Wednesday after a bomb ripped through a bus in Tel Aviv injuring 17 people, camp residents told Agence France Presse.

In Nahr al-Bared camp in north Lebanon muezzins sang out words of praise to God via their megaphones, while fireworks lit the sky and fighters handed out sweets, residents said.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea issued on Wednesday an open letter to Speaker Nabih Berri, condemning the continued parliamentary meetings in light of the 25 assassinations and failed assassination attempts in Lebanon in the past few years.

He declared: “We will not perform any routine duty until assassinations in Lebanon end.”
