The formation of Tammam Salam's cabinet is expected to lead to a series of agreements among the Lebanese arch-foes, in particular regarding the conflict in the neighboring country Syria.
A diplomatic source expressed optimism in comments published in An Nahar newspaper on Wednesday that the newly appointed government would be able to draft its ministerial policy statement swiftly.

Al-Mustaqbal movement leader former Prime Minister Saad Hariri held talks on Wednesday with Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
According to a statement issued by Hariri's press office, the two officials discussed the latest developments in the region.

One person was wounded on Tuesday as a Syrian military helicopter fired missiles at an area in the outskirts of the Bekaa border town of Arsal.
“Mohammed Ali al-Hujairi was wounded when four missiles hit the al-Raayan area in Arsal's outskirts,” LBCI television reported.

A photograph circulated by the Lebanese Army on Monday has turned out to belong to a Syrian man who was an assistant to detained Qaida-linked militant Naim Abbas.
“The picture is that of Syrian national Fares Hussein al-Hmoud, aka Fadi, who was an executive assistant to the detainee Naim Abbas,” LBCI television said.

Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi on Tuesday sent a cable to Prime Minister Tammam Salam, in which he congratulated the premier on the formation of the new cabinet.
In the message that was published by Syria's state news agency SANA, Halqi hoped to achieve “further progress in the honest brotherly ties between the two countries and two peoples in all fields, and to achieve further security, stability and prosperity for them.”

A number of Israeli soldiers crossed the technical border fence in the Kroum al-Mrah region in southern Lebanon in order remove parts of spy drone in the area, reported the National News Agency on Tuesday.
Witnesses told NNA that the 11 soldiers removed three parts of an MK surveillance drone that had crashed in the area in mysterious circumstances.

The Change and Reform parliamentary bloc on Tuesday revealed that the policy statement of Prime Minister Tammam Salam's cabinet will be “concise” and will not “eliminate” any political party, noting that it “will meet people's aspirations.”
“Consultations with al-Mustaqbal Movement made us enter an experimental and positive stage which we will witness during the cabinet's 3-month term,” Education Minister Elias Bou Saab announced after the bloc's weekly meeting in Rabiyeh.

A delegation of March 14 officials stressed on Tuesday the need for the camp's representatives at the new cabinet to commit to the Baabda Declaration.
It said after holding talks with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea: “The ministers should commit to national principles.”

Rockets fired from the Lebanese-Syrian border landed Tuesday on the outskirts of the Bekaa town of al-Bazzaliyeh and nearby areas.
“At 4:45 p.m., five rockets fired from the Syrian side of the border hit the plain of the towns of Hrabta, al-Bazzaliyeh and al-Labweh in the Baalbek-Hermel district, causing no casualties,” the Lebanese Army said in a statement.

A seven-minister committee tasked with devising a new government is expected to convene on Wednesday afternoon.
The announcement was made shortly after the newly-formed cabinet held its first meeting at the Baabda Palace.
