Al-Mustaqbal chief and former Prime Minister Saad Hariri arrived overnight in Lebanon to attend the tenth anniversary of his father's assassination at the BIEL exhibition center in downtown Beirut on Saturday.

According to al-Mustaqbal newspaper, Hariri a leader of the March 14 alliance arrived in Lebanon coming from Riyadh to give a speech at a rally commemorating his slain father.

Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan visited on Friday the grave of ex-PM Rafik Hariri in downtown Beirut from where he urged the Lebanese to hold onto the state and coexistence.

The 10th anniversary of Hariri's assassination comes in the absence of a president, Daryan said in a statement he read to reporters near al-Amin Mosque.

Al-Mustaqbal movement leader MP Saad Hariri stressed Thursday that the political and economic project of his slain father, former premier Rafik Hariri, will eventually “prevail” despite attempts to stop it through “arms, terrorism and assassination attempts.”

“Ten years ago, Lebanon was being built and someone tried to stop the process of Lebanon's reconstruction … and after 10 years, we're witnessing recurrent attempts to stop this project, but we shall continue,” Hariri told LBCI TV, two days before the tenth anniversary of his father's assassination in a massive bombing in Beirut.

Head of the Mustaqbal Movement MP Saad Hariri will not appear in person at Saturday's ceremony marking the tenth anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri over security concerns, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Thursday.

Mustaqbal sources told the daily: “Security fears will thwart his personal participation at the event.”

Prime Minister Tammam Salam has said that he received French assurances that Paris is continuing to exert efforts to end Lebanon’s presidential deadlock.

He told As Safir daily on Wednesday that he held around 14 meetings with Arab and Western officials in Germany last week “to prove Lebanon's presence on the international scene and shed light on the problems that it is suffering from.”

According to An Nahar newspaper published on Tuesday, Hariri is mulling to give his speech in person instead of appearing via video link.

Al-Mustaqbal movement leader ex-PM Saad Hariri has paid tribute to Saudi King Abdullah, who passed away last week, saying the monarch had been keen on preserving Lebanon's stability.

Abdullah “had made exceptional efforts over the past years to preserve the security and stability of Lebanon and stop it from sliding into the wars and storms that raged in the region and threatened to expand to our country,” Hariri told pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat in remarks published on Wednesday.

Speaker Nabih Berri has discussed with al-Mustaqbal movement leader ex-PM Saad Hariri the talks between Hizbullah and al-Mustaqbal representatives, al-Joumhouria newspaper reported on Monday.

The daily said that Berri's short meeting with Hariri was held in Riyadh over the weekend when the speaker extended his condolences on the death of Saudi King Abdullah.
