Liberia Tense as Opposition Cries Foul in Presidential Vote

Liberian incumbent Ellen Johnson Sirleaf's party vowed Sunday that she will contest a run-off presidential vote even if the opposition boycotts the polls, fanning fears of new violence in the war-torn west African country.

"If the opposition wants to boycott the process, that will not stop the process," Unity Party campaign director Musa Bility told AFP after the opposition on Saturday rejected as "flawed" provisional results of the October 11 vote placing Sirleaf in the lead.

Liberian Opposition Quits Election Race, Claiming Fraud

Opposition parties in Liberia on Saturday said they were pulling out of the elections, claiming fraud, as vote-counting put incumbent President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in the lead.

"We are pulling out of the process because it is not democratic and there is a lot of fraud," an opposition source said in the wake of the October 11 elections which also included parliamentary and senatorial polls.

Arab Foreign Ministers to Discuss Syria on Sunday

Arab foreign ministers will meet in Cairo on Sunday to discuss Syrian President Bashar Assad's crackdown on protests, the official MENA news agency reported.

The agency cited the Arab League's deputy leader Ahmed Ben Helli as saying the meeting would be held at the request of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Libya to Investigate 'Every Penny' in Oil Graft Probe

Libya's new government vowed on Thursday to investigate "every penny" of suspicious oil contracts signed under the former regime, responsible for what it described as "unbelievable" corruption.

STL Registrar Confirms Lebanon has to Pay its Share by End of October

Special Tribunal for Lebanon Registrar Herman Von Hebel expected from Lebanon to pay its share of the tribunal funding by the end of October, An Nahar newspaper reported on Thursday.

“Lebanon has 30 days to pay its share,” Von Hebel said during a press conference in New York.
