Prime Minister Najib Miqati concluded on Thursday his visit to Italy by holding talks with Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi, who hailed the Lebanese government for its policy of disassociation from regional crises.

He said after the meeting: “The Italian government believes it is necessary for Lebanon to continue on disassociating itself from the Syrian conflict.”

Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti expressed on Wednesday his country's support for President Michel Suleiman's efforts in trying to reconcile the government and the opposition alliance in Lebanon.

"We value the efforts made by Suleiman and we hope both conflicting sides will be able to overcome these critical times,” Monti said during a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Najib Miqati in Italy.

Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressed on Monday the need for France's support for Lebanon, while highlighting the strength of the historic ties between the two countries.

He said: “The situation in southern Lebanon, Special Tribunal for Lebanon, and the Lebanese government's policy of disassociation from the Syrian crisis will ensure Lebanon's stability.”

Italian deputy Foreign Minister Staffan De Mistura was optimistic on Wednesday that the Lebanese would overcome their political crisis and engage in dialogue.

“We are concerned over the stability and security of Lebanon amid the Syrian crisis,” De Mistura said following talks with Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour.

Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's admission that the party was behind the drone that was shot down by Israel on Saturday is aimed at diverting attention away from the developments along the Lebanese-Syrian border, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Friday.

A leading March 14 source told the daily: “Hizbullah is seeking to lure Israel into a war against Lebanon.”

Prime Minister Najib Miqati is set to travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo this week to represent Lebanon at the Francophonie summit before heading to France on an official visit in November, al-Liwaa newspaper reported on Thursday.

Miqati will head the Lebanese official delegation to the international grouping of French-speaking nations which opens its 14th summit on Friday.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Monday said its radars did not detect the crossing of any surveillance drones from Lebanon into the Israeli airspace, amid Israeli suspicions that a drone shot down by Israeli warplanes on Saturday over the Negev area could have been sent by Hizbullah.

In an interview with Radio Voice of Lebanon (93.3), UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tenenti said the U.N. peacekeeping force did not witness any event of a drone flying from Lebanon into the Israeli airspace.

A number of Nepalese members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon were wounded on Monday when their vehicle overturned in southern Lebanon, reported the National News Agency.

It said that six members of the Nepalese unit were wounded when their pick up truck overturned while they were conducting a routine mission.

The European Union's Political and Security Committee expressed on Saturday support for the Lebanese government in its efforts to preserve security and backed the Lebanese Armed Forces in confronting internal and external threats.

The members of the committee chaired by Olof Skoog met with Prime Minister Najib Miqati in the presence of EU Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst at the Grand Serail.

Israeli troops handed a deaf nine-year-old Lebanese boy over to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon a day after entering Israel, the National News Agency reported on Friday.

NNA said that Mohammed Hassan Fadl Jawad, who crossed into Israel on Thursday afternoon, was handed over through the Naqoura crossing to UNIFIL, which transferred him to the Lebanese army.
