ادى انفجار في وسط بيروت، صباح الجمعة، الى مقتل مستشار رئيس "تيار المستقبل" سعد الحريري، الوزير السابق محمد شطح في وسط بيروت.
وانفجرت سيارة مفخخة مقابل بنك عودة في ستاركو في وسط بيروت، وادت الى مقتل شطح، الذي كان يستقل سيارة من نوع نيسان اكس-ترايل، ونقلت جثته الى مستشفى رفيق الحريري.
وأعلنت وزارة الصحة أن الانفجار ادى الى مقتل 6 اشخاص، بينهم 4 لم يتم التعرف عليهم.
في حين أن عدد الجرحى تخطى الـ50.
وادى الانفجار الى تضرر عدد من المباني والسيارات ضمن مساحة 400 متر. وأعلن مفوض الحكومة لدى المحكمة العسكرية القاضي صقر صقر من مكان الانفجار أن "زنة العبوة في انفجار ستاركو تتراوح بين 50 و60 كلغ".
بدورها افادت الـMTV أن السيارة المفخخة هي من نوع "نيسان" وكانت مركونة الى جانب الطريق وهي مسجلة باسم أحمد أبو غزالة.
وقام الأمين العام للمجلس الأعلى للدفاع اللواء الركن محمد خير على رأس وفد بتفقد المكان الذي وقع فيه الإنفجار لتحديد الإحتياجات الملحة للمتضررين لإتخاذ التدابير المناسبة لتقديم المساعدات.
وآخر تغريدة لشطح على صفحته على "تويتر" كانت "حزب الله يهول ويضغط ليصل الى ما كان النظام السوري قد فرضه لمدة ١٥ عام: تخلي الدولة له عن دورها وقرارها السيادي في الأمن والسياسة الخارجية".
ومن الجدير بالذكر، أن اجتماعاً كان من المفترض عقده في بيت الوسط عند التاسعة والنصف من صباح الجمعة، اجتماع لقيادات 14 آذار ونواب الشمال من أجل متابعة تنفيذ مقررات مؤتمر طرابلس السياسية.
واثر الانفجار، دعت الهيئة العليا للكوارث اعضاء الهيئة الى اجتماع فوري وطارىء في السراي الحكومي، بناء على توجيهات رئيس حكومة تصريف الاعمال نجيب ميقاتي.
وأوعز خليل، الى مستشفيات العاصمة كافة، بوجوب استقبال جميع المصابين في التفجير الارهابي، وتقديم أعلى درجات العناية لهم.
وأعلن أن الوزارة تضع كل امكاناتها لتأمين ما يلزم لمعالجتهم.
يُذكر أن شطح كان سفير لبنان في واشنطن بعدها مستشار لرئيس "كتلة المستقبل النيابية" فؤاد السنيورة بعدها وزير مال، فمستشار للحريري.

You say that those assassinations benefit Israel, because I think that you blame most the ills of Lebanon on Israel. I don't see it this way. Is Hezbollah involved? Two theories:
1. The most generous: They had nothing to do with it, but knew about it, did nothing to stop it, and let it happen. If they didn't know about an attack that takes this level of intelligence gathering, preparation, telecom coordination, not to mention money to put together, I would be very disappointed.
2. The least generous: They did it to send a message to whomever is thinking about collaborating with the STL. The message: This is dangerous territory, and we are serious, do not go there.
Either way, unfortunately (for them) it will backfire, because you can't take something away from someone who has nothing left to lose.
Like their involvement in Syria, this is another turning point in a series of miscalculations that started with the assassination of Hariri.
This has now become the law of diminishing returns.
