RIP.. but when will people STOP crossing highways, specially that there is a pedestrian bridge nearby? May he RIP, but partly his fault.. and when do drivers learn to STOP when they hit someone?? Accidents can happen to anyone, but escaping the scene makes the accident a crime.

Cause he was a priest, he thought god would protect him as he crossed the highway. Of course, that meant he didn't have to use the footbridge.
I feel more sorry for the driver who hit him, as he has to live with the fact that he killed someone, as he was driving home.
And yes, even if the guy was sticking to the speed limit of 80, I doubt the priest would've survived.
Also, great news covering only the death of a priest, rather than the hundreds of deaths on the road in Lebanon each year. Man of god or not, you don't risk your life like that.

Your first sentence is of utmost disrespect and religious ignorance, regardless of your own religion.
A driver you should feel sorry for is one that assumed responsibility of his actions and did NOT cowardly flee the scene, but judging on your pure judgment from your first sentence, i can understand why you would write that.
The question is not at what hit speed would the priest survive, but at what speed would the driver have time to brake. In something called "school" (you probably heard of it) where you generally take physics courses, you learn that the more you speed, the bigger your braking distance.
Abouna al-Khoury was a known priest to most of the christian community of the region, we were all sad to read the news of his death. And if you're so irritated by priest killing posts, then maybe next time just don't click on the title, read the whole article, and then bless us with comments of utmost ignorance!

how dear you write something like this when you don't even know him, didn't your mother ever teach you if you don't have something nice to say don't say it. My grandfather was a great person and may he rest in peace. You have some respect, like johnny said read the article not the title

RIP, however my dear Naharnet web editors, this very same picture of a red cross ambulance is used way too often. Can't we get a relevant documentation of the article?

RIP our Dear priest...Naharnet Please ban BenXXXX
Cheers

RIP
but how many deaths will it take for people to stop crossing those highway. We need a new law that puts the full responsibility on people who are attempting to cross these highways.

RIP, poor priest.
They really should find a way to discourage people crossing highways by making the medians higher and take out the gaps in between the k rails as well as giving people either bridges or tunnels to cross highways.
Hopefully something good comes out of this tragedy.

This priest is someones father, brother, friend, uncle. Please respect that many people are grieving the loss of someone dear and close to them due to speed. Not to mention all priests are a comfort to many in their community they serve and so the sadness goes to a whole community who lost a valued and loved friend and confidant

The best grandfather in the WORLD. He had a heart of gold. May you rest in peace Jido, salim 3al tayta. Xxx we will miss you and never forget your beautiful face.

@ ABC (Guest) You’re an uneducated and ignorant human being trying to discredit such an honourable and well respected priest. Whether its his fault or not you should express your condolences as such disrespect is uncalled for. And as Johnny said, you’d feel sorry for a driver that responsibly stopped and tried to aid such a dreadful incident rather than cowardly take off. An accident is an accident! I honestly wouldn’t envisage such harsh consequences if the driver had simply made any attempt to stop and help. But he only thought of himself as other cars behind hit the priest too. Disgusting and Foolish! This news was devasting to his family and to all who knew him. Although any death is tragic and everyone is somebody, this media report is on social news and is obligated to report an incident of a well known and respected religious leader within the Christian community.

@ Johnny – Thank you
RIP my great Uncle, Im so honoured to have met you and spent time with you and can see why you were so loved and respected by all. Gods Bless your soul, Amen.
