I like the idea of marking this as a big milestone! But national holiday? Everything would become national holiday... We need to work, produce... It's not as if our economy is doing great! But again please no misunderstanding, it is something never to be forgotten...

if for every 'occasion' we take a day off, add to that the religious holidays of all 18 sects in Lebanon.. when do we work? I suggest that 1 day should mark ressistence, struggle, independence from all oppressors. Maybe Nov. 22nd is outdated. The day we liberated our country from israel, Syria.. we should agree on 1 date to mark both occasions. if wee can not agree on a date, then we settle for Nov. 22 to mark all of those occasions..

It's quite important to know that Syria as a country didn't occupy Lebanon as such; The Assad family from the father to the son were using their clout to subject Lebanon to this agony and turing it from the paris of the ME to a peripheral country bearly catching its breath. lebanon has no problem with the Syrian people; we are brothers and sisters and we all respect each other within the Sovereignty of each country. The lebanese should wait a bit because this day would be gone with the wind once the assad family are deported from Syria which is inevitable. The syrian and the lebanese would look at the day of departure from Lebanon and laugh. The assad family has done more damage to his country and people than he did to us in Lebanon. Therefore, I don't support this day because it would be irrelevant.

I already celebrate independence day on 26 April of each year. It would be nice to make it official.

Shame on you FT you forgot all the sacrifices to get the syrian out of Lebanon, your master Michel Aoun once have even a liberation war against them. We did a national hollyday for ending the "protectorat period" of the french, so why not the syrian, or if you are worried about removing another holliday, just do a holliday that represents all the occupations that lebanon once have (french, israeli, syrian, roman ect ..), so a different date than all others, so everybody will be happy. France, USA they have such a holliday.

There is the independence from foreign armies (that is done) and then there is independence from inside enemies (those with loyalties to foreign entities and or religious bigotry) and there are too many of those. But if the good men and women keep on the good fight, one day our prayers will be answered and we will get the Lebanon that once was.
