كونيلي تلتقي قهوجي وتشدد على أهمية الجيش في الدفاع عن حدود لبنان واستقلاله

أكدت السفيرة الأميركية في لبنان مورا كونيلي " دعم الولايات المتحدة في تعزيز قدرات الجيش اللبناني"، مشيرة الى أهميته" في خدمة لبنان كقوة الدفاع الشرعية الوحيدة لتأمين حدوده والدفاع عن سيادته".
كونيلي التي زارت الجمعة قائد الجيش اللبناني العماد جان قهوجي، لفتت الى "دعم الولايات المتحدة في تعزيز قدرات الجيش اللبناني"، مشددة على أهمية "الجيش في خدمة لبنان كقوة الدفاع الشرعية الوحيدة لتأمين حدود لبنان والدفاع عن سيادة الدولة واستقلالها".
وأعربت عن "تقديرها للجهود التي يبذلها الجيش اللبناني وقوى الامن الداخلي للعمل معا للحفاظ على الهدوء في لبنان"، لافتة الى " قلق الولايات المتحدة ازاء الوضع الأمني الحالي في لبنان".
كذلك، دعت كونيلي جميع الفرقاء "الى ممارسة ضبط النفس واحترام أمن لبنان واستقراره".
ويُذكر ان حادثة عرسال البقاعية القت بمثقلها على الداخل اللبناني حيث قضى النقيب بيار بشعلاني والرقيب أول إبراهيم زهرمان، في كمين مسلح، تعرضا له ومجموعة من عناصر الجيش اللبناني، الاسبوع الماضي، اثناء توقيف حالد احمد حميد المطلوب إلى العدالة بتهمة القيام بعدة عمليات إرهابية.
وفضلاً عن بشعلاني وزهرمان، ادى الاشتباك الى مقتل المطلوب وجرح عدد من العسكريين وتعرض بعض الآليات العسكرية لأضرار جسيمة، بالإضافة إلى إصابة عدد من المسلحين.
وكان قائد الجيش العماد جان قهوجي أكد أن "عرسال ليست محاصرة من قبل الجيش بل ان افراده هم ابناؤها ووحداته منتشرة في داخلها وحولها وخصوصاً لجهة الحدود مع سوريا".
