Movie Review: Last Vegas (2013)

If "The Hangover" wasn't your thing, then maybe a movie about four, elderly old friends going to Vegas for a bachelor party is more up your alley. "Last Vegas" stars four legendary actors, and they're ultimately the only reason to watch this occasionally funny, but overall pretty mediocre comedy.

When Billy (Michael Douglas) spontaneously decides to propose to his 32-year-old girlfriend, he and his best friends Paddy (Robert de Niro), Archie (Morgan Freeman), and Sam (Kevin Kline) head off to Vegas for a bachelor party. But we soon find out that there are some unresolved issues that may risk putting a stop to the fun, and even Billy's wedding.

The film is by no means a bad movie, but it's extremely by-the-numbers, and every character fits a certain stereotype and sticks with it throughout the duration of the movie. The only fun you'll have is watching four great actors clearly having a good time in their roles, except maybe de Niro, who gets the least charismatic character out of the bunch.

Like you'd expect, the movie is filled with "look at us, we're old" jokes, but the film fails to dig a little deeper and truly take advantage of a cast like this. The movie doesn't have to be melodramatic like "The Bucket List", but some added emotion would have been nice. I'd definitely say Kevin Kline and Morgan Freeman were the standouts, and got most of the laughs.

Anthony's Verdict:

While "Last Vegas" doesn't live up to its cast's potential, it can still be charming and endearing at times. Some people will definitely enjoy it more than others, but unless you really want to watch this, you can probably wait till it hits home video.

Numerical Score: 6/10

Fantastic movie without being rank, foul mouth, and just plain good with lots of laughs. We all loved it.

Definitely had more class than more recent comedies, I agree with you there!
