Miqati: Lebanese Stand at U.N. Takes into Account Sensitivities of Situation in Lebanon
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةPrime Minister Najib Miqati stated on Thursday that Lebanon chose to “disassociate” itself from the United Nations Security Council statement on Syria out of its “firm position that it will not intervene in the internal affairs of other countries.”
He said before reporters: “Lebanon does not meddle in the affairs of other nations, especially Arab ones, and it expects others not to meddle in its issues.”
“In Lebanon’s view, the Security Council statement does not help in tackling the situation in Syria,” he added.
“The Lebanese stand took into consideration the sensitivity of the situation in Lebanon,” he explained.
“Some claims that the government’s position is hindering international legitimacy are untrue,” the premier said.
“Such allegations are part of the political dispute in Lebanon or they are derived out of ignorance over how Security Council resolutions are made,” Miqati continued.
On Wednesday, Lebanon “disassociated” itself from a Security Council statement condemning the use of violence against anti-regime protests in Syria, while the rest of the countries present at the meeting voiced their support of the statement.
The stupidest comment I have heard yet...what about the sensitivities of the thousands that have been killed by the regime? Shame on you Miqati, it is clear that this was a Syrian decision that you had nothing to do with...
Prime Minister Najib Miqati stated on Thursday that Lebanon’s position on the United Nations Security Council statement on Syria “caters to the sensitivities of other sides.”
He told Voice of Lebanon radio: “Lebanon’s position is special.”
For sure it is special so are you Mr. Prime Minister! What about the sensitivities of a whole nation called Syria? of people that are being slaughtered every day or they don't have sensitivities??!!!
The Brave Syrian people are taking notes believe me and they will remember who stood by them and who did not. I guess you agree with me in "Principle", Mr. Prime Minister.....
satisfied all sides ??? !!! what are you talking about !!!? it does not satisfy the majority of the Lebanese people but only the side that stole the government by threatening the stability of the country with its weapons, using the cause of `resistance` to justify its existence, creating two classes of Lebanese citizens:
The ones who abide the law of the state
and the ones who think they are above all and can do whatever they want
Pity, shameful, disgraceful to defend the fact that Lebanon is the only country that Disavows U.N statement .. and to think that you presented yourself in the M14 list in 2009
I'm not surprised at all by the stance of the government. Miqati does not have a long leash. This is a Hezbollah government and it will toe the line on all significant matters.
Until Hezbollah is eliminated, Lebanon will be a pariah.
for the sake of ur family: RESIGN NOW,not for the benefit of saad,u are from the same school, BUT FOR THE SAKE OF bilad el arz,AND ITS STATURE INTERNATIONALLY.
Lots of grandstanding and showboating, but the unfortunate reality is if the M14 or anyone else was in power, they would have done exactly the same thing.
Russian President Medvedev urged Syrian President Assad to implement reforms and reconcile with the opposition, saying he risked a "sad fate" if he failed to do so.
A sad fate indeed it would be...... Take note Mr. Miqati.....People will not forgive those who betrayed them in moments of crisis.
Lebanon is BIG time sectarian - that's the way lebanese people and their politicians see their country. Each of us looking at his/her own interest or the interest of his group/reigion, but not the interest of the country as a whole. It is about time that we lebanese take it to the streets and demand real freedom and democracy from our pseudo-goverment and our mentally-chalenged and schizophrenic politicians, and build a new country free for all and represents all. Until then, we will just be puppets in the hands of the regional and international regimes...
Few months ago, Lebanon delegation was spearheading the efforts to issue a UN resolution condemning Qaddhafi and his rule in Libya. How brave was our stance that time as praised by the "Thank you Syria for occupying us 30 years" camp.
Today, shamelessly, our hypocrite prime minister declare that our currenr stance in the security cpuncil is because our “firm position not to intervene in the internal affairs of other countries, especially Arab ones.”
"Denial" is not a river in Egypt..
This person is supposed to be a leader to our lebanese people ? with his linke we do not need enemies.. go quit and run and live under the brutal murderous assand and his caln in syria and we will see how sensetive they can be to you..
Thousand's of innocent normal Syrian people are getting murdered and brutalized and yet the current Cabinet is blind ( I guess you attract who YOU ARE). They are all made of the smae cloth, "OPPRESS THE SHEEP" cause we know better.
How does it feel to be on the WRONG side of history ? oops they don't know what that means..
FREEDOM to all the peacful and deservinbg people in the Arab world and middle east.
The truth is finally shining. Assad's credibility is like Mikati's and Berri's. Negotiating with Hizb is like negotiating with AlQaeda. Talking sense to Aoun is like talking sense to Khadafi. The snake in Mokhtara is being poisoned by its own venom. The worst form of corruption is nepotism and influence peddling and Aoun gets Nobel Prize in both. Worst economy is planned economy based on subsidies and profiteers surrounding corrupt politicians like in Syria & Iran and that's Bassil and M8 track. This nightmare is soon to be over. All the tyrants in the region will soon be performing their last act in a cage in front of a judge... Maybe then we can purify the land from the Basij and Mukhabarat germs tha are poisoning our democracy so we can start rebuilding Lebanon and restore its flame of freedom and justice to illuminate the path of the region's youth lost in the labyrinth of tyranny and theocracy.
Keep justifying your stance, maybe you'll believe your own bullsh1t, its apparent Aoun does....
