The ISF, which announced Ismail's arrest via Twitter, said two of its members were wounded in the shootout that accompanied the operation that took place at al-Taybeh region in the Bekaa.
Separately, state-run National News Agency said "the fugitive Bilal Mohammed al-Masri was killed in (Bekaa's) Hourtaala during a clash with an ISF Intelligence Bureau patrol that was chasing him."
An army soldier who was passing in the area was accidentally wounded in the shooting, NNA said.
Earlier on Monday, the army arrested a number of Syrians in the Bekaa region of Arsal for illegally entering Lebanon, according to the agency.
It said that 12 Syrians, including gunmen, were arrested at checkpoints on the outskirts of Arsal.
The gunmen were armed with hand grenades and had in their possession fake identification cards.
They have since been referred to the military police for investigation.
Also on Monday, an ISF patrol came under fire in al-Jouban region in Arsal as it was trying to confiscate a stolen SUV.
The patrol came under fire from gunmen, but none of its members were harmed. The security forces later seized the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the army failed in arresting a wanted suspect in the Bekaa's Dar al-Wasiaa and al-Yammouneh areas, NNA said.
It said that Hussein Abed Ali Jaafar managed to escape arrest during a chase in the region.
A shootout ensued, prompting Jaafar to flee from his vehicle. He was soon chased in the outskirts of al-Sindyan area.

@ Flamethrower, Mowaten and Karim, yes god bless the lebanese army, exept it must apply the same use of strenght everywhere in Lebanon, in baalback as well. We must find a solution to all those syrians that have entered the country illegally and at least 40% of them are armed and act like lawless rangers in lebanon. We cannot afford anymore people coming. We have more than 1.5 million syrians in this country, top on it 700k palestinians. Why dont lebanese leaders get together and ask Saudi Arabia , Qatar , Jordan and all those countries that are providing money and extremists, to harbor the syrian people they have helped leave their home with this devastative war?
Maybe Lebanese leaders are happy like that, a state of jungle where they can always have reasons to not do what they have to do and act freely as warlords among thieves , killers and crooks
No no this is so wrong, call Hajj Brahim Mousawi tell him about this screw up! Our usually on the ball Jihadist brother manning Naharnet pretending to be a moderate Shiite Hezbollah supporter and pretending to be pro Army and pretending to be Aounist and pretending to be a lunatic southern Hezbollah supporter has been screwing up big time lately. His persona pretending to be a Aounist is still attacking Mustablal when everyone knows that Hajj Michel Naiim Aoun is pretending to be Saad el Deen Hariri and the KSA's new best friend and has ordered his rank and file to cease from attacking either. Even OTV has taken to calling Hariri Saad without the el Deen part and Hajj Nabil Nicola is making doux yeux to his Mustakbal counterparts. The Jihadist brother presona pretending to be Aounist should immediately stop from attacks on Mustakbal and KSA before everyone on Naharnet figures out who he really is and all the hard work put in for years goes down the drain into the sewers where I live!
