Geagea Urges March 8 Camp to Choose Candidate to Ensure Success of Wednesday's Polls

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea criticized on Monday the March 8 camp for submitting blank ballots during last week's presidential elections, which he said resulted in the obstruction of the polls.

He slammed the tactics as hindering democracy, urging the camp “to choose a presidential candidate to ensure the success of Wednesday's presidential election at parliament.”

“I held this press conference after it became clear to me that the camp will once again resort to submitting blank votes, which will consequently result in the failure to elect a president,” he remarked.

Turning to the March 8 camp, Geagea warned: “Persisting with such practices will jeopardize the elections and lead us to vacuum.”

“We must respect laws that demand the election of a president, not the creation of vacuum,” he demanded.

“Worse than vacuum is having regional and international powers pressure Lebanon to elect a president that reflects the balance of power in the region, not one who seeks the country's interests,” Geagea stated.

Moreover, he warned against obstructing quorum during Wednesday's electoral session, saying that quorum is needed to ensure that the polls are held and “this factor should not be abused to hinder democracy.”

Geagea, a presidential candidate, received the vote of 48 out of 124 MPs during the first round of the elections that was held on Wednesday.

A candidate needed 86 votes to emerge victorious in the first round.

Democratic Gathering MP Henri Helou received 16 votes, while 52 lawmakers cast blank ballots.

The second round of the elections will be held on Wednesday with a candidate needing 65 votes to be elected president.

Incorrect. Geagea simply wants March 8 to PICK a candidate. Comprehension problems?

yes off course, comprehension problems. Sheep do not and will not be able to comprehend

No Hassan Nasrallah wants to dictate what the president should be like !

Geagea does not dictate. This is M8's modus operandi !

So, if you have no candidate, shut up and accept whatever candidate is running for presidency.

You know nothing about democracy and you failing to present a candidate and imposing a pseudo "consensus" candidate with no plan or solution for this country shows how much you are full of it !

The Syrian occupation of Lebanon lasted about 30 years, the after-occupation it seems will last as long. They've made sure that we Lebanese will forever remain ever more divided. This presidential show is confirming it to us now.

Thumb cedre 28 April 2014, 19:57

yeah right, christians are divided because of syrians...LOL

Dr Geagea it's been clear that the desperate and delusional General Aoun, now laughably fancying himself a "consensus" candidate, is still waiting for the go ahead from Saad Hariri and the KSA before he can announce his candidacy and his FPM sheeple seem OK with that. Hexzallah's mouthpiece Al Akhbar has been writing about this for weeks.

http://english.al-akhbar.com/node/18937

Of course this is not happening and Aoun says will not run otherwise, so killing the quorum is M8's only resort. Which means the next president will be a consensus president appointed from beyond the border and who barely represents his community.
Say bye bye to Bkerke's "strong" made in Lebanon president.

Geagea has committed worse atrocities than Killing and Assassinations, He used to get payed by countries like Italy to bury Nuclear waste, that are unwanted by most countries in the world, due to its devastating effects on the environment, a man like that, does not, can not, and will never, love his country. He poisoned the Land for generations, they say they cleaned, but you dont know if its 100%.

Let me clarify March 8's position. Under the Taef Accord, Shiites are slaves in Lebanon. Therefore, they want a nice Christian to be President so that they can have as good a time as possible while continuing to be enslaved, which is obviously God's will. When Christians agreed to take half the seats in Parliament for themselves, who are thirty percent of the population, and give the other half to the seventy percent who are Muslims, fifty or more percent of these Shiites, they, as Patriarch al Rahi would say, were only doing the best they could to sustain equality and stability in Lebanon, and quite frankly, March 8 is not, I repeat, not too stupid to realize this. That is all Mr. Geagea is saying.

Thumb Mazen 28 April 2014, 19:15

chrisrushlau again hits the nail right on the head and all the FPM's supporters obviously agree with him. The president should be Shiite. The Christians who are barely 30% of the Lebanese population, according to chrisrushlau and Noam Chomsky's well researched statistics, are usurping the Muslim's rights especial the Shiites. Also the mounasafah in the Lebanese Parliament and government jobs should be abolished as it unfairly gives too mush power to the Christians and takes power away from the rightful owner the Muslims especially the Shiites. Chrisrushlau keeps pointing this out and FPM supporters by their constant silence agree, they are usually ready to jump down the throat of anyone they deem disrespectful of the dogma. Unless the FPM supporters we keep hearing from hysterically defending "Christians rights" are Hezballah propagandists in FPM clothing.

Thumb ado.australia 29 April 2014, 06:03

Every time the same rubbish from chrisrushlau.

Reality check...
39.6% (figures released by the interior ministry in 2004) of registered voters in Lebanon are Christians. 70% of the 2 million Lebanese citizens around the world are Christian, and 90% of the 10 million Lebanese descendants (qualified to become citizens) are Christians most of whom live Brazil.

Thumb general_puppet 28 April 2014, 19:01

"Who gives a stuff about Aoun" you do... you keep calling in The General, but the only thing that makes him stand out from any other Lebanese General is that he started a war, made a speech to fight to the end then ran off and abandoned his soldiers and his family.
