Dangerous Fugitive Involved in Car Bombings Arrested in Arsal
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةDangerous fugitive Ali Ammoun, who is involved in car bombings, has been arrested in the Bekaa border town of Arsal, state-run National News Agency reported on Sunday.
“The Lebanese Army arrested in Arsal a man called Ali Ammoun, who is one of the most dangerous fugitives who are involved in booby-trapping cars and sending them to the Lebanese interior,” NNA said.
Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) said Ammoun is accused of “sending bomb-laden cars from Syria into Lebanon.”
Meanwhile, MTV pointed out that Ammoun was arrested on Saturday, noting that he was wanted on multiple arrest warrants and that he is being interrogated by the army.
The development comes amid a strict security plan that is being implemented by the army in Arsal and the entire northern Bekaa region, which has resulted in the arrest of many wanted men.
On April 9, the army arrested in Arsal the dangerous fugitive Mohammed Qassem along with several Syrian gunmen.
State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr later charged Qassem and several others with belonging to a terrorist organization.
They were charged with belonging to the Syrian al-Nusra Front, an al-Qaida-linked rebel movement, carrying out terrorist attacks, the possession of arms, and booby-trapping vehicles.
Al-Akhbar newspaper has reported that security forces are pursuing several explosive-rigged vehicles that were mentioned by Qassem during his interrogation.
In March, Sami al-Atrash, described by the army as a dangerous terrorist, was killed in a clash with troops in Arsal.
According to the army, he was wanted on several charges including “preparing bomb-laden cars; firing rockets and mortars at Lebanese villages and towns; and kidnapping citizens.”
