Omar Bakri Charged with Belonging to Terror Groups

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

The military prosecutor charged on Tuesday Islamist cleric Omar Bakri, who was arrested last month, with belonging to terrorist organizations and for plotting to establish an Islamic state in Lebanon.

The state-run National News Agency said the charges issued by Judge Saqr Saqr against Bakri include belonging to armed terrorist groups, including the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)  and al-Qaida, and working to establish an Islamic state.

Bakri was also charged with weapons and explosives training and preaching against the state and the Lebanese army. His preaching targets patriotism and ignite civil war, the charges said.

Saqr referred Bakri to the first Military Examining Magistrate Judge Riyad Abu Ghida.

The Lebanese authorities had issued an arrest warrant for Bakri for involvement in the clashes in the northern city of Tripoli but he fled to an unknown destination in April.

He was apprehended by the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau at his residence in the Mount Lebanon town of Aley on May 25.

Bakri lived in Britain for almost 20 years before settling in Lebanon in 2005 after he was banned from London under government curbs following the underground and bus bombings that year.

The Syrian-born cleric, who also holds Lebanese nationality, has denied he has any links to al-Qaida although he said he believed in "the same ideology."

He is not the only one working to establish an Islamic State in lebanon. The Terror party's charter clearly states its objectives of creating an Islamic State in Lebanon. Its leader a few days ago openly said his so-called "resistance" is Islamic. I suggest to judge Sakr to go arrest him as well.

sure, and why do they still call themselves "islamic resistance" and not "lebanese resistance" and still show the koran on their flag? only because they are islamist extremists, nothing to envy the salsfis or alqaeda...

I agree with Mowaten - For example the Hizb always abide by the dictates of the Lebanese government and Lebanese state. It never ever allow foreign interference foreign countries. It never ever pledge allegiance to a foreign country or leader. It never ever break Lebanese law. They are boy scouts.

Missing peace 03 June 2014, 21:02

"people like you look at images"
yes because it is soooo representative of this islamist party otherwise they would call themselves lebanese resistance...
and their actions clearly piont in the extremist direction but seems you are tooo blind to see it like any brave fanatic .

but you try and minimize this fact as usual because truth hurts...

nice try but wrong

"Salafi cleric Omar Bakri Muhammad was sentenced to life in prison by a Lebanese court for being a member of a militant group that plotted terrorist attacks and the killing of Lebanese soldiers. A day after being arrested, Nawar Sahili, a Hizbullah MP and lawyer, offered his legal services to Bakri as a representative of the Shi’a movement. Bakri accepted Hizbullah’s offer and was been released on bail."

HizbIran using extremists ans palestinians the same way Assad does...
They went to the same school...

Thumb .mowaten. 03 June 2014, 19:00

oh and ghazafar thanks for the link, seems there are some parts in it you should read:

"It should be recalled that Hizbullah made attempts to reduce tensions with the Salafi community prior to the Syrian Civil War.
(1) On August 18, 2008, Hizbullah and the Belief and Justice Movement signed a memorandum of understanding that forbade violence and accusations of heresy between Shi’a and Sunni, would establish a committee of clerics to “manage disputes,” and called for the two factions to jointly oppose American and Israeli policy in Lebanon. Sheikh Dai al-Islam al Shahhal rejected the memorandum and commented that it was ‘harmful to the Sunni community’. The day after the memorandum had been signed, the Belief and Justice Movement rescinded the agreement, its leader stressing the importance of Sunni unity."

and anonyme you're thick as a wall, you come back every now and then with the exact same broken records we discussed a million times.
so for the millionth and one time: no, nasrallah did not defend fath el islam, he asked for them to be caught and sentenced (while your friends now are asking for them to be released)
what nasrallah was defending was the palestinian refugees and their camp, warning that a frontal attack by the army would lead to many innocents dying and losing their homes. and as it turns out he was right, and thousands of palestinians have been made refuges for a second time, and until this day, the camp has not been rebuilt.

You do understand the difference between appeals and appoints don't you? You wrote "bakri appointed a HA MP as lawyer" when Sahili himself said the he was sent by Nasrallah. I can see it now, criminals up and down the country appealing to Nasrallah and Nasrallah extending his welcoming hands like the Christ the King statue in Zouk Mosbeh; Nawwar Sahili is going to be a very busy boy.

Thumb .mowaten. 04 June 2014, 10:48

Nice try ghanzafar, but oops!

"He became Bakri Muhammad's lawyer after the cleric appealed to the Hezbollah leader, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, following his conviction."

HA extended an open hand when they asked for help, and Omar Bakri spat on it. This time nobody will help him.

But after all, if you guys are happy he is in jail, and i am too, then at least we agree on the outcome :)

Missing Ghazanfar 04 June 2014, 11:36

And the answer is, you don't know the difference between appeals and appoints. You keep linking the same story, Bakri appealed to Nasrallah, as if that would chance anything. He could have kept appealing till the cows come home without Nasrallah appointing Sahili to defend him all the appeals in the world wouldn't have amounted to anything. Forget the goodwill bs, you, I and Nasrallah we all knew what kind of hatemonger Bakri was and who he was affiliated with, his track record spoke for itself. Still Nasrallah chose this guy with barely any street representation to extent his open hand to just like that out of the goodness of his heart, come on. He should have bitch slapped Bakri with that open hand and rejected his appeal it wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever to Shiite-Sunni relations. But you're right all water under the bridge, as long as Bakri get his comeuppances I'm happy although thanks to Nasrallah's intervention those are coming four years too late.
