Parliament Session Postponed over Cabinet’s Absence

Parliament session was postponed on Wednesday because of the lack of quorum and the cabinet’s failure to attend it.

Only 52 MPs made it to the session and minister Nicolas Fattoush served as the only government representative.

MP Robert Ghanem said after the session: “This is a precedent in that parliament was unable to be convened because cabinet was not present.”

The postponement incurred the ire of opposition lawmakers with MP Ahmed Fatfat asserting that a legislative session can be held if the ministers were absent and MP Marwan Hamadeh slamming the government as being a “failure.”

He added: “All governments are allowed a grace period that they can use up based on their performance.”

“We would like to note its confusion and the record number of violations it has committed,” he continued.

“It has reached its failure in record timing,” he stressed.

“It’s enough to check the ministerial statement and the commitments it vowed to respect,” Hamadeh said.

“None of these pledges have been fulfilled. Where is the reform promised by the blocs?” he wondered.

It’s as if Hizbullah and the Reform and Change bloc have agreed to only protect the party’s arms and maintain their control of Lebanon, the MP noted.

He pointed out its failure in tackling the assaults in the town of Lassa, the Estonian kidnapping, the capture of suspects wanted by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, and the attacks against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.

Hamadeh stated: “The government is not running in an empty circle, but one filled with dangers to Lebanon, its economy and security.”

“The grace period is over and our fellow colleagues should realize this and leave,” he concluded.

A date has not yet been set for when parliament will convene again.

If they are this useless and impotent with no one in opposition we can but imagine how useless they would be if all of Lebanon was represented by this government.
