Iranian Embassy Denounces Dahr al-Baydar Blast, Calls for Unity
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe Iranian embassy in Beirut urged on Saturday the Lebanese to further unite to avert any possible threats and safeguard the country.
“The current stage requires the Lebanese to unite and to join ranks to avert any possible threats,” the embassy said in a statement to denounce Friday's suicide bombing that targeted an Internal Security Forces check point in Dahr al-Baydar.
General Security chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim had driven past the site of the explosion in his convoy shortly before the blast.
The attack also coincided with a series of raids in the Lebanese capital following reports of a plot to target security posts.
The statement also called on politicians to find common grounds and end the sharp rift by adopting policies that dissociate the country from the developments in region.
“The Iranian embassy strongly condemns the criminal acts that only serve the enemies of the nation.”
The last explosion to hit Lebanon occurred on March 29, when a suicide bomber in an explosives-laden car targeted a Lebanese army checkpoint near the Syrian border, killing three people. Earlier in the year, a series of car bombs struck Shiite areas across Lebanon, killing and wounding hundreds of people.
Hard-line Sunni groups have claimed responsibility for those killings, saying they are meant to punish Hizbullah for supporting Syrian President Bashar Assad.
