Berri: Lebanese People Must Unite to Confront Regional Crises

Speaker Nabih Berri warned on Monday of the dangers the developments in the region may have on Lebanon.

He said: “The Lebanese people must unite to confront all these crises. Lebanon is a single family.”

“It should safeguard all of its territories,” stressed the speaker, while urging the need to elect a new president.

Berri also called on political powers to refrain from obstructing state institutions and cease “spiteful” acts.

The speaker had held talks on Monday with MP Ibrahim Kanaan, the envoy of Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Michel Aoun.

Lebanon has been plunged in presidential vacuum since the term of President Michel Suleiman ended in May.

Seven elections sessions have been staged, but lawmakers failed to elect a head of state due to a dispute between the March 8 and 14 camps over a candidate.

Aoun had stated that he would be willing to run in the polls if there is consensus over him.

The next electoral session is scheduled for July 2.

Priorities ya Assteez proprieties, some things take precedence over unity

"If things comes down to a choice between the Resistance and any kind of unity, then the Resistance would take precedence. When it comes to its sustainability, survival, strength and progress, the Resistance’s history proves that it holds these elements above all other considerations." Nawwaf Moussawi April 2010

Berri : You mean how Hezbollah and Bashar united to wage an attack on Lebanese soil ?

For the Lebanese to unite, they need to be equal ! To be equal, they need to be "As armed" or "disarmed". Let's go for disarmed !

Only the Lebanese army can protect the Lebanese people. Hezbollah protects no one other than themselves and Bashar !

Gabby, the Shias are Lebanese like you and me. Hezbollah is a sectarian political party that has a defined agenda. Do not blame the Shias for Hezbollah, do not blame the Sunnis for ISIL or the Christians and Druze for the crimes of their parties.
The great majority of Lebanese want peace, dignity, social and economic security for themselves and their families.
The whole region has been transformed into a powder keg because of a minority of weaponized extremists with crazy agendas, starting with Likud in Israel, Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Islamic Republic of Iran, ISIL and of course the Assad regime, (worshiping the blind god of power and money).
This is going to be a very long and very destructive regional civil war.
Lebanon has a chance to protect itself. We have to be patient and not let our emotions carry us away.

Hezbollah might have committed crimes against Lebanese politicians, (they deny it), and it was a grave mistake if they did. This antagonized a large section of the Lebanese and Arab population that considered them heros in 2000.
Their fighting in Syria worsened this situation.
By inviting back March 14 into the government and giving them the most sensitive ministries, and March 14 by accepting this unity government, both averted a catastrophe.
So let's be patient and withstand the regional storm side by side. It might be a 10 year storm or more.

You mean like Putin and Medvedev?

For a population of 143m Russia didn't manage to change politicians for recycle its politicians too.
Lebanon with a population of 4.8m has 3 presidents (2 at the present) at any one time.

Putin has oil and gaz coming out his nostrils. He also managed to be richer than the King of Saudi Arabia. http://www.therichest.com/celebnetworth/politician/president/vladimir-putin-net-worth/

According to Netanyahu's NPR interview, he is reviving Menachem Begin’s famous "blessing" on the Iran-Iraq War: I wish both sides success.

Of course but I like the black humour of "I wish them both success" although I am definitely not a fan of the man who said it.
But thanks for the link. Didn't know the term bait and bleed. It is even more aggressive than "farrek tassod".
