Report: Hariri to Inform Aoun about Limited Chances to Reach Baabda

Al-Mustaqbal movement leader ex-PM Saad Hariri is reportedly expected to inform Free Patriotic movement chief MP Michel Aoun that he has limited chances to reach the presidential palace in Baabda.

Al-Akhbar newspaper quoted informed officials as saying on Friday that “Hariri will personally inform Aoun” about the issue when he returns from Saudi Arabia.

The officials, who were not identified, told the daily that Hariri has sent his envoy former MP Ghattas al-Khoury to Rabieh to set the stage for the contact between him and Aoun.

The FPM chief, who heads the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc, has not officially announced his candidacy for the presidency claiming there should be consensus on him first.

The members of his bloc have been boycotting along with the majority of the March 8 alliances MPs the parliamentary sessions aimed at finding a successor to President Michel Suleiman, whose term ended in May.

Meanwhile, al-Mustaqbal officials denied that the party led by Hariri and Hizbullah were preparing for talks between their top officials.

OTV reported on Thursday that there were contacts between the head of Hariri's office, Nader Hariri, and Hizbullah official Wafiq Safa.

But the Mustaqbal officials told al-Liwaa newspaper that there were no plans for high-level talks between the two parties.

The officials, who were not identified, stressed that Nader Hariri is abroad.

“At this stage, the former premier has only contacts with Speaker Nabih Berri” from the March 8 alliance, whose main members are Hizbullah, the FPM and Berri's Amal movement.

Pan-Arab daily al-Hayat said earlier this month that a meeting between Hariri and Nasrallah will not be held any time soon because of the strong differences between al-Mustaqbal and Hizbullah.

"Hariri is reportedly expected to inform..." hahahhaha gotta love the journalistic prowess demonstrated here.
it's not just anyone who can parrot the moustaqbal press releases like that.

Hariri should tell Aoun, No ticket to Baabda.

Limited chances? Try non existent, al akhbar stating the obvious with it's customary sinister spin. Did you notice aoun's the post surgery "broken arm" yesterday at the fpm's meeting, he was flapping both arms around like a juggler begging the question what really sent him to the hospital?

Hariri: look khayye stop begging me for my vote, why don't you sit with Geagea like he asked you to sometime ago and agree on a Chritian candidate. Because if you Christians agree we Muslims will agree with you both. See simple problem solved.

flamethrower, how in the world do you keep doing it? Your ability to debate and your knack for presenting the facts with a twist of humor are unparalleled in any form of media.

Missing forces 22 August 2014, 11:35

Flame not wishful thinking it really did happen. Both Geagea inviting him to agree on a candidate and Hariri telling aoun to agree with the Christians. I just wish he doesn't destroy the country further with his stubborn headed approach,

Another day another dollar as flamethrower begins another 14 hour shift. There is a well known theory that if he keeps at it he'll probably come close to re-creating the complete works of Shakespeare by randomly mashing keys on his keyboard.

Not an accomplishment keeping tab on posting habits the submition time is posted next to the comment. So anyone reading naharnet can see that FT is posting on most stories all day long, hours on end and then some. This is obviously his job.

Roro I apologies, I forgot I was talking to a aounie where common sense almost always doesn't apply. You would evidently prefer to cut off your nose to spite your face.

Missing forces 22 August 2014, 12:10

Roar thank you for you informative post and I think I speak for the majority when I tell you we understand what aoun said " I will not run unless there is consensus" but I also put it to you that a man is judged not by his words but by his actions, therefore "I will not run if there is no consensus" has translated to" if there is no consensus on ME I will not let anyone else run".

Missing forces 22 August 2014, 12:13

To prove this to you, if tomorrow he agrees on Khatter or Baroud, the day after we will have a president.

Missing forces 22 August 2014, 12:51

Flame I disagree totally with your analysis. If you are basing your position on what mustabal said only then you fail to see the strength of the Christian position. Both Hariri and Berri have publicly said the Christians need to agree on the Christian post, Geagea publicly invited aoun to discuss this and agree on what he said was the bkirki list which included both Katar and Baroud. Had Aoun agreed on a name in public then all other considerations would have been null and void given mustabal's public support for Geagea they would not be able to back down and given the Christian unity there would be no room for disagreement from HA or Amal either. We would have seen a true made in lebanon president. We Christians are the problem not the solution unless we are united. And that means swallowing your pride occasionally.

Missing forces 22 August 2014, 12:57

As for ahwaji, if we have suiteable candidates like the two mentioned plus others we don't need a concelation president like ahwaji. As for Rokouz, I am sure he is capable and if he is the most capable at the time so be it. That decision is as critical as the presidents and should be based on capability not natural progression.

Binary, this has nothing to do with false hakim. Aoun said he wants there to be consensus on HIM, your beloved General Michel Naim Aoun. Stop twisting the story.

Default-user-icon Wissam (Guest) 23 August 2014, 00:40

.-flamethrower.- for once you are right with your prediction that Harriri would tell aoun "bleez dont kill the messenger" because the real terrorists in Lebanon are the dummy effin PM and kizbulah.
