Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc renewed on Tuesday its position that electing a president is a priority over all others.

It stressed after its weekly meeting that this election will pave the way to holding the parliamentary polls.

It considered that the “rescue initiative” launched by the March 14 forces is positive and objective, because it paves the way to dialogue between all Lebanese parties.

The party confirmed once again its unconditional support to the Prime Minister and the government in dealing with the issue of the abducted soldiers and policemen from the northeastern town of Arsal.

It expressed its full understanding towards the demands of the families of these soldiers.

Al-Mustaqbal asked all sides to stay away from all kinds of statements of treason and incitement, and to work towards preventing sedition by all means available.

Earlier on Tuesday, the parliament failed again to elect a new president over the boycott caused by the majority of the March 8 camp's parliamentary blocs.

Lebanon has been without a president since May.

The March 14 alliance's initiative supports the Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea as a presidential candidate, but said it was ready to agree on another consensual candidate.

Gabby the constitution does not say that rival parties cannot reach a deal. Surely though, it is not as democratic as having different candidates and going through a true vote.

The reality of the situation is that ruling political elites in Lebanon are both politically and morally bankrupt, and this applies to both coalition groups the so called March 14 and March 8 camps.
