Hizbullah Delegation from Rabieh: Aoun is Our Candidate and This is Final
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةHizbullah secretary-general's political aide Hussein Khalil announced Thursday that Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun can be considered a “consensual” presidential candidate, describing the disagreement between the party and the movement over the extension of parliament's term as a “minor” issue.
“Our meeting today was aimed at reiterating that the relation between Hizbullah and the FPM has surpassed the memorandum of understanding to become an 'existential relation',” said Khalil after meeting Aoun in Rabieh.
The talks were also attended by Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil and head of Hizbullah's Liaison and Coordination Unit Wafiq Safa.
“The FPM and us have become one body,” Khalil added.
“We must put our hands together and close ranks in the face of the fierce storms that are lashing our country and the region in general,” he said.
Recalling recent remarks by Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who voiced support for Aoun in the presidential race, Khalil said “what the Sayyed said about the presidency was the normal thing to say, because General Aoun represents the pinnacle of national leadership.”
“He has his own decision and he is not subordinate to a foreign agenda and he's almost the sole leader of Christians in Lebanon and the Middle East,” the Hizbullah official explained.
Asked about the divergent stances over the issue of extending the parliament's term, Khalil said “the issue of extension was a minor thing.”
“We don't impose our ideas on our allies, the same as our allies do not accept to impose their will on us,” he added.
“We believe that General Aoun is the best candidate for the presidency and this is our final stance,” Khalil said, in response to another question.
“We consider General Aoun to be a consensual man and he has the characteristics of the prominent leader. He is a man of decision at the level of Lebanon and the region and we'll defend our point of view till the end and this is our firm stance which we will not change,” Khalil added.
Last week, 95 out of 128 lawmakers voted to extend their term in office for a second time, amid a boycott by the FPM and the Kataeb Party.
Lebanon has been without a president since May when the term of Michel Suleiman ended.
A dispute between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise candidate has thwarted the election of a new president.

what a great PR plan! FPM challenges before const. council and directly after Aoun is ready to be branded as the best and sole candidate by his allies. Aoun has done them a lot of favors to deserve this treatment from HA
that's good news. Now would you finally go down to parliament and vote for your candidate and let there be a president?????????
“We don't impose our ideas on our allies, the same as our allies do not accept to impose their will on us,” he added.
-- So you don't impose ideas on your allies, but you do on your enemies.
“We consider General Aoun to be a consensual man and he has the characteristics of the prominent leader. He is a man of decision at the level of Lebanon and the region and we'll defend our point of view till the end and this is our firm stance which we will not change,” Khalil added.
-- A man of decision? That's why originally he was against the Orthodox law, then switched and supported it. That's why twice he voted against extending Parliaments, yet he's still taking part in it. That's why for 5-6 months he denied he wasn't a candidate, then he proposed a "direct election", then he won't give up on a candidacy he never declared. A man of decision, right...
GMA's love for SHN is finally out! I wonder when their wedding in the rat hole will be?
Mr. Hussein Khalil, Aoun is not a consensual candidate as you stated, Aoun is a puppet, a stooge, a lackey, a rubber-stamper, an "arriviste", a man deluded with only one thing, to be President of the Republic, even if that meant going to Al Dahieh and shine the shoes of Sayed Hassan every morning. How can he be a consensual candidate for heavens' sake, how? Like all warlords, including those he fought, he has blood on his hands. He is also a chronic liar, a ruthless opportunist, the man has NO principles, even denying the lies he put up ten minutes ago, he will deny and recant. This man is sick, mentally deranged well beyond repair, there are people who will swear that he is a regular patient at Deyr El Salib and you want him to be president of all the Lebanese? Take him, keep him him, let him cook, wash, iron and shoeshine for Sayed Hassan if you wish, but don't ever attempt to impose this dwarf of a human being on us Lebanese. Leyk 2al, consensual, 3an jad khallouna rey2in.
Which only brings to the surface one thing, who the heck is Hezbollah, or anyone for that matter to try and impose such an impostor as Aoun on us?! Even Dr. Geagea is deemed as totally not acceptable to us as president, so why Aoun, a semi-literate senile old man. My question, are we Lebanese so unworthy of it that only fools like Aoun can be president? Don't we deserve well educated and professional people for once to rule the land? Are we short of such people or is there a Red Line drawn for us? We have people like Demianos Kettar, Ziad Baroud and many other new generation people, so why keep bringing these decaying old humans to rule over a people that deserve only the best?
The country definitely needs new blood...Clearly most of the dinosaurs have failed miserably, and should do everyone a favor, step away and be patriotic for a change...
