Kataeb Party leader Amin Gemayel embarked on Saturday on a tour of the South, the first such visit since 1983, reported An Nahar daily.

He stressed: “Our solidarity helps preserve our security and stability.”

He made his remarks from the residence of Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil in the town of al-Khiyam, the third stop of his tour.

“Our presence here is the greatest message against those seeking to harm Lebanon,” he added.

“We are committed to achieving Lebanon's higher interests,” he stressed.

“No one can save Lebanon alone, but we must all agree on common factors,” Gemayel stated.

“Lebanon derives its strength from its unity and solidarity of its people,” he continued.

For his part, Khalil said: “Lebanon is facing several dangers, such as the constant Israeli threat and the new takfiri terrorism that does not distinguish between the people.”

“We support dialogue and communication between all factions. Differences are probably necessary for political life, but we reject divisions,” he added.

“We welcome Gemayel in the South because his visit helps bolster communication between all sides,” he stated, while calling on all political figures to follow his example and head to the South.

“We hope dialogue would end disputes, restore normalcy to state institutions, and ensure the election of a president,” he noted.

Both officials hoped that proper functioning would be restored at state institutions and that political powers would succeed in electing a new president to end the months of vacuum.

Khalil later threw a luncheon banquet in Gemayel and the accompanying delegation's honor.

Later during the day Gemayel inaugurated a Kataeb center is Marjeyoun, he stressed that "Its about time we elect a president to restore order to all the state's institutions, and restore discussions on a defense strategy to protect Lebanon."

"We have all fought for Lebanon's interest one way or another, but we have all fought outside the state's authority," added Gemayel.

Earlier, Gemayel had kicked off his tour by visiting the town of al-Qulaia and Khalwat al-Bayyada and later the archbishopric in Hasbaya.

Kataeb sources told An Nahar that Gemayel's visit “is an extension of the current dialogue between Gemayel and Speaker Nabih Berri and between the Kataeb and Hizbullah.”

“The talks will bolster the spirit of reconciliation and openness in Lebanon,” they explained.

X President Amin Gemayel could be the right person to take over the presidency Power in Lebanon in this critical period
I think, both Aoun & Ja3ja3 have to admit this fact to secure Christian position in Lebanon and avoid new Taif

Amin will not become president, nor would he be a good one anyway. We need someone who wasn't involved in the civil war, someone who's truly neutral, someone who's fed up with both M8 and M14, someone who's gonna come up with an agenda that benefits Lebanon as a whole and not just one side, someone who will force the Lebanese to run their own affairs and not be foreign servants.

Funny how you speak as if that you dont know that lebanon is technically ran from the "outside" as they say. You think a strong or weak president will rule this country, ever?
It is time to shake the status quo and allow for nonsectarian political system in place. Lebanese should be ashamed of themselves for accepting this sectarian power sharing to run this way perpetually.

yu are absolutely right ,but till now this person has not
materialized...so not to leave the republic without head, gemayel can be a good spare tire.

This is what I'm referring to. But the status quo cannot be shaken until a truly Lebanese man takes over who's willing to sacrifice himself for all of Lebanon to become a truly unified country. And we're not gonna see that leader from this generation of politicians because half of them are responsible for the civil war. It's gonna be someone who's currently a student that one day will become a politician

You mean someone not Lebanese or someone who is 20 years old?

Thumb kanaanljdid 13 December 2014, 18:33

...but your assertion is somehow right

No. No. No. All our present sufferings come from the errors made during your presidential mandate. No to you. No to capiral, geagea and sleiman. Yes to someone who is competent and honest. There are many among the christians!

Take "Islam" from the equation, politics, business of running a country and civil institutions, and you'll have a country that stands on its own feet and survives without the need to exploit its natural resources in order to import basic needs that a civilized society should achieve on its own. Civilized societies do not need other to build their roads, homes, schools, feed and provide them with medical care. Arguably, the Persian are a step or two in advance of the desert dwelling Arabs, but at the end of this day they will still have a so called "Supreme Leader" under the color of religion who dictates their lives. Iran without its oil revenue is a glorified Afghanistan, and the employment of foreign scientists to build a nuclear program comes no close to the innovation of "pizza" in Tehran than the program itself. KSA has already achieved the building of its nuclear weapons via Pakistan. Do not thread lightly with the next Presidential election.

With respect to all candidates I truly find that mr Harb is the best choice of someone educated wise and not involved in militia or civil war. Mr Boutros Harb is not a divisive one and not a puppet to any foreigner plus he is of strong character and far from being weak opting for compromising solutions.
However I am aware that my words are blown by the wind of millions of opinions dividing Lebanese people.
