Salam Condemns 'Harming' Relations with Bahrain as Rifi Urges Govt. To Apologize

Prime Minister Tammam Salam on Saturday announced that remarks coming from “any political party” regarding Bahrain or any other country do not reflect the official stances of the Lebanese government even if the party is a part of it, as Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi urged the government to apologize.

Salam said in a statement that he is “keen on the brotherly relations between Lebanon and the Kingdom of Bahrain,” stressing that “remarks coming from any political party regarding Bahrain do not reflect the official Lebanese government stances.”

On January 9, Hizbullah chief Sayed Hassan Nasrallah alleged the presence of a “Zionist-like naturalization scheme” in Bahrain.

His statement was met by broad Arab dismay, with the Gulf Cooperation Council announcing the remarks contained “an incitement to violence and discord.”

Salam explained in the statement that “the political diversity in Lebanon allows differences in the stances regarding national and international issues, but this must not justify harming the Lebanese interests or relations with any of our brotherly or friendly countries.”

"The official Lebanese stances on the Arab and international issues are announced by the government and its spokesman, the prime minister, not by any political party even, if it was a part of the government,” he added.

He also stated that “Lebanon which suffered a lot from interference in its affairs is keen not to interfere in any country's affairs, especially if it is an Arab country like Bahrain.”

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Rifi stressed that “Hizbullah's remarks require an apology from the Lebanese government to Bahrain.”

He also declared that he will talk "about this issue in cabinet,” condemning how Hizbullah “allowed itself to announce such remarks like it is the one that controls our fate”.

"As a Lebanese citizen I apologize to Bahrain, and I hope that Hizbullah's stances will not affect the relations between Lebanon and Bahrain,” he added.

As a Lebanese citizen I also apologize to Bahrain for the behavior of a terrorist who only represents himself and his sectarian regime in Iran.

this time round, an apology is not enough to repair what nasrallah broke.
people will be deported because of this.

Nassrallah behaves as if he is the appointed 'Murshid" of Lebanon without due regards to any norms or consequences. He believes he is above the state: he directs the state, he dictates to the state, and considers the state a tool for his scheme. He claims to head a "resistance" yet on every occasion he talks internal politics, elections, health issues, government policy, foreign intervention, issues threats left and right etc. Surely, this is a unique and unheard of resistance we are witnessing.

As a Lebanese citizen I apologize to Bahrain and say: this man does not represent me, does not represent Lebanon, and surely he is not Lebanese.

bless anyone person, entity, organization, brigade or country that inflicts pain and suffering, death, torture, and destruction upon the iranian sectarian terrorist militia and its members, supporters or followers wherever they may be.

Its not everybody in Lebanon who makes their living by receiving a cheque at the end of the month from the iranian regime and its lebanese militia.... We have a lot of Lebanese all around the globe and in Persian countries working hard to support their families and working in an honnest way tomake their living.. So please Mr Nassrallah respect these people and don't harm their interest....

Bahrain's only mistake is that they don't behave like the terrorist regime in Syria and gas and drop barrel bombs on their own people, Bahrain should treat them like the barbarians they are and let it rain barrel bombs on their heads, give them a taste of their own medicine.

I am Lebanese. I am not beneath Bahrain to apologies for a political statement. Anyone that apologies for a political statement by someone who doesn't even represent them is a total and utter fool. No more no less.

you certainly have an attitude. Apologizing to someone you did wrong to does not mean he/she is beneath you. It means you have the strength and graciousness to admit mistakes.
