Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp resigned on Tuesday because immediate knee replacement surgery means he can't continue to fully commit to the struggling club.

QPR lay 19th in the 20-team English Premier League.

Surgery "is going to stop me from doing my job in the coming weeks," Redknapp said in a statement on the club website.

"If I can't give 100 percent, I feel it's better for someone else to take over the reins."

Redknapp informed chairman Tony Fernandes of his decision early Tuesday.

Fernandes said QPR and Redknapp part on amicable terms.

Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey are in temporary charge of the team.
