Asiri: We are Relying on Lebanese Officials' Wisdom to End Govt. Impasse
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةSaudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awadh Asiri voiced his country's support for Lebanon's stability, hoping that officials would succeed in ending the deadlock over the government, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Saturday.
He told the daily: “We are relying on the wisdom of national political figures to end the impasse.”
He made his remarks after holding talks on Friday with Speaker Nabih Berri.
“We are relying on their diligence given the challenges we are facing in the region,” continued Asiri.
“This is an internal Lebanese affair and we hope the deadlock would be short-lived,” he added.
The ambassador also hailed Prime Minister Tammam Salam for his strenuous efforts to preserve stability and unity in Lebanon.
The cabinet is facing a deadlock following the Free Patriotic Movement's insistence to tackle the contentious security appointments file ahead of any other issue, which is threatening to paralyze its work.
Last week, the government failed to agree on the appointments controversy.
FPM chief MP Michel Aoun has bluntly rejected any attempt to extend the terms of the officials.
He has been lobbying for political consensus on the appointment of Commando Regiment chief Brig. Gen. Chamel Roukoz, his son-in-law, as army chief as part of a package for the appointment of other top security officers.
Roukoz's tenure ends in October while the term of army commander Gen. Jean Qahwaji expires at the end of September.

Asiri assured the Lebonese people that the new regime in Saudi Arabia would put an end to sectarianism in the region through example and leadership. "This is the world after Mohoammed, remember, not the world before him: we are not surviving despite each other but with each other and because of each other."
The wisdom part of it has never existed, but now the broke part of it is what will lead Lebanese politicians to think rationally. Iran is now just too broke to dish out any more cash around, inflation is literally eating their tomatoes out, Hezbollah is being gradually dried out of its financial resources worldwide, Syria is breaking its knee bones, Syria is in a deep abyss, Yemen looks more of a mirage now for Iran and its allies, the KSA, the UAE, Egypt and Jordan are standing firm, the Shiite Crescent is now ever more frail, so who else but the Saudis who can still dish out mighty cash? Now Assiri talks, but soon, everyone in Lebanon will realize that he who owns the cash stash is the one who'll call the shots, even M8 will abide, Berri's smile is a clear indication.
I bet you will be among those to convert to Wahabbism when you see those mighty gulf cash ya phoenix.
Follow Geageas example ya zalame.
Careful takfiri. First you have to win, if you do thhen I will not be alive to debate you about these matters, until then. You will be fought till the end, Sayeda Zeinab sa will not be enslaved your kind ever again, let God decide.
