Report: France to Provide Lebanon with Military Aid

French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian is expected to visit Beirut in the next days, amid reports that France will provide Lebanon with military assistance after Saudi Arabia halted its grant last year, the pan-Arab al-Hayat daily reported on Friday.

The French minister's visit affirms that France is going to support Lebanon's military agencies after Saudi Arabia halted a Lebanese army grant in 2016, added the daily.

France has developed a plan that will be put into implementation the current year. It will see the reinforcement of Lebanon's security forces to counter terrorism, it said.

In February 2016 Saudi Arabia halted a $3 billion program for military supplies to Lebanon in protest against Hizbullah's policies and diplomatic stances by the Lebanese foreign ministry.

The $3 billion program financed military equipment provided by France.

Alleged leaders of Hizbullah are under sanctions by Saudi Arabia.

Hizbullah is supported by Saudi Arabia's regional rival Iran, with whom relations have worsened this year.

Riyadh cut diplomatic ties with Tehran in January after demonstrators stormed its embassy and a consulate following the Saudi execution of a prominent Saudi Shiite cleric and activist.

typical hezbi behavior= belittling the lebanese army to brag about their "resistance" LOL

The US is by far the biggest donor of weapons to the Lebanese army.

France is a colonial imperialist ex power that kept Lebanon and the Lebanese under it's feet.

Missing ArabDemocrat.com 03 March 2017, 14:03

Versus Iran that keep Lebanon under its feet. At least Lebanon advanced under French tutelage. Now, we are going backward.

what does the heretic see wrong with what @terro said?!

Was the army able to protect Beirut and its inhabitants during the glorious invasion of hezb of terror?

Was the army able to keep the airport opened during the same invasion or during the meqdad's resistance brigade demonstration of show of force?

Slizern ... You are the one defending the colonial power Iran and defend them and their tools day in and day out. France introduced modern education to Lebanon. Iran introduced medieval education and practices. So yes, I would take France anytime over the Mullah barbarians

The Army is not allowed to get anything that could endanger Israeli safety, Al thanks to America, Saudi and France.

a true patriot wants his country defended by his army not by a political party....
you want a single political party to decide the fate of an entire country. you are all but lebanese.

Where was Iran during the Syrian occupation of Lebanon. Why didn't train and supply the army for over 30 years? instead they choose Hezbollah. or did you forget 3 decades of nothing from Syrian army other than misery and destruction. Had Iran then trained the Army and armed it to the same sophisticated weapons like they have and still doing for hezbollah. Then we would not be talking about it now. Also Iran offered 7 million dollars. why don't take it and shove it where the sun don't shine. I am sick and tired of you whining after 4 decades of Iran controlling Lebanon thru your thugs in Dahia and you have the audacity to criticise Saudi Arabia or the US. Where were you when the Saudi dropped 2 billions dollars to Assad Regime for decades.. you didn't mind then. but now they are all wahabis and daesh to you. I don't remember seeing Saudi Intelligence coming to train Sunnis in Lebanon or ever infringed on Lebanon Sovereignty.

Must be diving goggles and second hand uniforms. Only Iran and Hezbollah have delivered on their promises to supply arms to the army.
