“Maharat” and the “Cencorship Observatory” held a press conference Thursday to launch a draft law on “Freedom of Film Making” and to legally study the Censorship law.

The conference, which was held at at Metropolis hall in Achrafieh, was aimed at presenting the public with the content of the draft law and launching a general discussion on censorship in Lebanon.

It was also aimed at launching a campaign to support the censorship law and advocate its adoption in parliament at a later stage.

Journalist Pierre Abi Saab discussed the issues of censorship and the aspirations of the draft law, while Hanan Hajj of the “Censorship Observatory” talked about the observatory’s civil independent movement, “which was formed to revise and develop the censorship laws in Lebanon.”

"Maharat" chief Aline Farah said she was surprised at some colleagues' support for censorship, which they justified by saying that “everything should be under control.”

Farah added: "We know and understand that this discussion will take time since there are those who support and others who oppose censorship.”
